Hi mate,

Ive never fitted one of them aftermarket HUD's. However if I were looking to run a cable from the OBD port to just in front of the dash binnacle (as per your picture), I would drop it down between the windscreen and the dash. There's enough space there to get a fair size cable down without too much hassle, especially if you use some cable rods or similar. Ive done it a fair few times for various bits of kit.

Then the only bit of visible cable would be an inch or so between here it pops up and the HUD unit itself.

It's why I use my iPhone... -- although I had to remove it temporarily for last year's MOT, as the cheeky bugga doing the testing threatened to fail me for having something obscuring my view....

Agreed! Some have been lucky, and got them to work with the Torque app (principally Android, IIRC...) -- and even parts of MES -- but I use this...! (y)

Admittedly, it's not cheap; but the tech support is outstanding; and they're working hard at making it more Euro-friendly. You can capture live data with it; but, sadly, it won't yet do anything that MES needs a coloured adaptor cable for.

It's replaced my handheld reader completely, and I haven't used MES in ages: as it reads engine-related codes -- and clears them -- quickly and simply. Also nice to see what speed the car thinks it's doing; coolant temperature; lambda voltages, etc. on the fly. (I never could get the hang of driving with a USB cable snaking across to the passenger seat....)
