Hello,

FIRE engine camshafts.

I assume (but have not stripped apart to find out) that because both the Fiat Uno and Fiat Panda (original) 4x4 both use the 999cc FIRE , that I can put a Panda 4x4 cam in the Uno. Does anyone know for sure?

I am interested in utilising the different cam lobe profiles, an extra two degrees of dwell or lift isn't it? I think I picked that up from somewhere on here (?).

I assume therefore that the other dimensions relevant to 'mounting' it are universal.

Does anyone know if this is correct, or have they done it? I am sure I am not the first to think about this!

Thanks for any replies or knowledge forthcoming.:slayer::)(y)

Yes.

The difference in profile will give a little more power but you need to balance it with the correct carb' jetting.

If you're lifting the cam' from a donor car take the carb' as well and a whole extra 7bhp can be yours. :D

Thankyou, so it will go straight on then.

Interesting to hear you say take the carb as well. As all engine/inlet/outlet dimensions are the same, the original carb should be feeding in the correct fuel/air mixture, but for a marginally longer period of time.

So in theory there should be no need to put the other carb on for smoothness and correct smooth running, just for the increased dwell.

I realise the increase in power therefore comes from the cab in tandem with the cam, from what you say. Thankyou. But is it mostly from the carb or?

So from what you say the power gain is split between carb and cam. Any idea on the ratio/split? 50/50? In other words cam change alone = 3.5-4bhp? (10 % whoppee!)

Thanks for letting me know about the carb.

Yeah I was going to re-shim anyway, because it has just turned 50,000 miles, and have this slight top end tap. Infact it is that, that made me think of doing the cam lift in the first place.

I have not looked at the figures or studied all of the differences yet (some books on order), so I am not yet aware of exactly all of the differences.

But thanks for saying incase I miss that fact when I get around to it. (Makes mental note).

I usually always check valve clearances if ever I have to go into rocker covers etc.
