Fiat's are SLOW

Fiat's are SLOW

Keep this to yourselves, last night i raced my mate in his very quick Mitsubishi EVO. Saw him coming up behind me in a 30 zone. As we came to the 60 we both floored it! He pulled out to overtake straight away, but amazingly the Abarth started to pick up speed! After a long stretch a bend approached and he pulled back in! Another stretch came and he went out again, back into 4th for me and floor it again. He failed. We both pulled over after and had a chat. First thing his girlfriend said was "Wow that's a fast car!"

I was a tad in disbelief myself, i told him i thought he would destroy me in that! Bearing in mind he's a rally driver too, and a good one at that!

fiat are to into economy to bother over fast cars anymore, my bravo 1.6 feels fast enough for me:)...
plus we have the 500A, Punto Abarth..so we have quick nippy hatchbacks, and id soon rather have one those than a waste of money clio 197.
if you want a quick hatchback get a bravo 20v, strip it out, do the usual..remap and exhaust, guarantee you'd be looking around 0-60 in less than 7...
i get more of smile on my face when i can out corner most commercial boxes, than say 0-60.

Just to iterate I mean't my comment as sarcasm.

I'm guessing you do to Draig? :p. Any Lancer Evo any shape or form would s***k over a 500A.

Well i thought it would. It's an oldish one though, 0-60 is probably a trifle quicker than mine (6.8 in the A500) but after that i thought the EVO would keep pulling. He seemed as surprised as i did tbh

The oldish one's are usually faster IMO. Evo VI probably being the best.

I honestly thought you were being sarcastic  :p

The only explanation i can think of is that his girlfriend might have been screaming to "slow down" when he pulled out to overtake. I raced a Motorbike 20 mins later, he too didn't overtake but stuck to my bumper as well

Evos aren't exactly that fast in a straight line, they're designed to be quick everywhere....

Try racing a BMW 3 series diesel at those speeds. :p

There is a third way....if its an oldish lancer it could be f**ked.

Also FACT if you say FACT in front of anything no matter how outlandish it becomes the truth immediately and is incontravertable no matter how much balance of proof there is against it.

FACT, I did several laps of the fiat test track on top of the old factory racing against a top secret 0-300 supra, i'll admit he was closing the gap on the straights but had to slow right down on the banking so was lapping his ass after 6 laps or so. After this I got bored so left to watch the fight between Vin Diesel and Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson having told each of them the other said he can't act and is a sissy.

FACT I know what you just said is true. I am actually Dwayne "the rock" Johnsons personal trainer on weekends.

I've got a doblo 1.9jtd and if I spin up revs I can watch most chavmobiles in my rear view. In fact, when I'm in the mood, I like to get half a car's lead, take it to the speed limit then ease off the gas, holding it at the speed limit - no need to do any more as It's proved itself, letting the muppets carry on beyond the speed limit.
Only downside of doing that is that my mpg drops considerably - so I tend only to do it if the muppet next to me is itching for a burn up (although sometimes I will edge forward as though consenting to a burn up but then sedately draw away from the line letting them thrash their motors.

Just to add, I recently had the chance to floor it on a local track. The satnav said 98mph, speedo said 116mph

I find that I can do the same. Doesn't matter what the cahv is driving, the Doblo beats it off the line!

An indicated 116mph from a Doblo JTD? My JTD used to get to 108mph and then the engine management light would come on and I'd loose power etc etc. That's a well looked after machine.

I've not maxed my multijet 120 as I like my licence these days, I wonder what it could do?

If you cannot buy fast Fiat, build it yourself

My account cannot post links, but you can google these videos:

Fiat-131-racing-v6-turbo_91775.htm

Best time with this setup was:1/4 mile 11.9s, 191kph
Top speed about 260kph @7800rpm

And same car with smaller turbo:
YPtCkChiZqQ

Still beats Supra :)

I find fiats fast? as far as i'm concerned fiat don't need to complete with speed freaks, coupe is still pulling strongly against ALL the listed cars, so when the other people have caught up, im sure fiat will adapt, but only when needed!

Love the handling on my marea at the minute, seems very predictable through the bends and fiats 1.6 engine offers a decent burst of power delivery in the mid/upper range which i like feeling the engine come alive exiting a corner, i drive at the speed limits but i do love accelerating to the 60s and 70s when i'm alone sometimes! Ofc fuel is pricey but sometimes the lively drive of fiats is very enjoyable, certain cars have certain flairs and before i wasn't hot on fiats until i drove one, my view has certainly changed!!
