Hi, my grilfriend and I are off to look at a K reg Uno for her.

It's being left to me to have a look at it and see what I think.... :S And I have no real clue what to look out for...

I've being told its a K reg UNO priced at 400 quid (is that too much?) and what do I look out for?

Mayonase in the oil cap and stuff that time I'm after!

Thankyou greatly everyone.

I'm not an expert but £400 seems about right for an asking price for a Uno K-reg, what's that about 1993, provided it's a good runner in good condition. I'm sure you can get a few quid off it if you like it. Good luck.

I did think that that was a pretty acceptable price.. We'll have to have a look at it tonight, found some buying info on a site, so I'll take that along with me.

Thanks Dr P.

wot model??

i had an uno once, it had intermittent cut out when coming to a stop, but always started up again straight away.

take it for a good thrashing, use every gear to the limit.

they normally a good car but sometimes u get a real stinker, u know any mechanics?? take him/her with u if u go.

I have no idea on the model mate, otherwise I'd have posted it.

My cousin is a mechanic, and he is gonna go with us after the intitial, do we like it or not?

I have a 1.0ie Uno M-reg, I value it at about £400 with the CD player with 68k on the clock and overall excellent condition. The cutting out is usually easily sold, either the vacuum advance unit, the distributor or a dirty throttle body.

They are very basic cars, mine didn't even have a clock or a cigarette lighter but fine for most things, very easy on the fuel and simple to work on (I think).

Tapping noise seems to be fairly normal from the engine.

I have a Uno 1.0ie START and enjoy it, cheap and trouble free (touch wood) motoring but has very little kudos :(

Sorry if this is a bit vague :(

Check for underbody rust VERY thoroughly. Uno's rust like there's no tomorrow - especially the sills. Also check wheelarches, door bottoms, and metalwork behind the rear bumper.

Not so much a problem if it is a MK2, they are fairly well galvenised in many places I think, K is mk2 right?

Definately a Mk2 I'm pretty sure mine was and it was a G-reg. Never had a speck of rust on it.

Also under the carpets in the boot. If the seals have leaked it could be quite a mess in there. Definitely check the sills. Freddy's are a complete mess.

If possible, try and start it up from cold. If there are any starting problems and the engine is warm when you get there, it could be a cover up. Check for mayo in the oil like you've already said, just check in the general at the engine condition.

Has it any service history etc etc.

Good luck :D

Pah.

Just got back from the girlfriends.

Looked sound, was white, and was a 1.0 E version, not the best I grant you, but a fab first car.

A few spots of rust, but not extreme. Doors where heavily rotted on the inside, but again nothing that bad on a 10 year old car.

Interior was fantastic cept for a few areas of thin carpet..

Had 89,000 (about average) on the clock, seemed to be leaking from the rocker cover and had a build up white s**t on the oil cap which could hint at short journeys or the head gasket gone

We where slightly dubious and to cap it off, it's 600 notes third party fire and theft....

I think we'll wait a bit!

Definately sounds badly looked after/coming to its end? I am sure Steve will back me up with the fact is is mainly a galvenised body because I am sure it was him I read it from. Anyway, rust gets everywhere whatever you do, maybe this was parked a lot on soft ground etc. in its past? I have no rust I know of on my doors, there are two bits I know of on the car, one where you get splatter from the road - the rear part of the front wheelarch - and the other just below the rear window about the size of a pencil top rubber. It must be remembered that white loves showing up even small amounts of corrosion.

I reckon you can better for your money surely! Either that or my estimate of how much my car is worth needs to increase slightly.

It is only insurance group 2/3 I believe so the insurance should be about as good as you can get.

better look next time :)

Mk2 was galvanised? My old Uno was an H-reg Mk2 and it had monstrous amounts of tinworm. Sills were terrible, I had to weld them up, the driver's door rotted so badly it had to be replaced, and both front wings went around the wheelarches. [xx(]
