i know this is a sticky and everythin put im not happy. the sticky has gone confusing. im askin about a punto mk1 P reg

anyways i bought the car second hand not from any dealership was private. it came with one red key. thats it. i havent got the 2 blue keys and havnt got the key card

iv phoned fiat they want 50quid for a new blue key, then 8quid for a new key card with codes on it, then 30 quid to put the code in the car

is ther some other way around spending 88quid? what can i do.. please help.. :)

how do i get a blue key.. the dealer in fiat said i HAVE to pay 8 quid for key card so they can make the blue key :S

they said they dont have the codes on any of theyr databses and that i shud have the card.

bolocks they blaitently dont have a clue dont let them touch your car

you need to buy a minimum of 2 blue keys you cant program one

get them cut by dealer or mabey local lock smith might be beter at it

then put your red key in turn ignition to mar then turn it off again

put in first new blue key and turn to mar wait for code light to go out

then put in second blue key and turn to mar and wait for code light to go out

then wait between 4 and 9 seconds put your red key in again if the code light stays on your keys are programed if it goes out keep turning it on and off untill it does stay on if you still have trouble try again

you can program the key as many times as you like they to as many cars as you like there is no limit so dont be afraid of fuging it up

and dont pay more than 50 quid to have it done

the code cards are for forsing the engine ecu to start the engine with the fiat examiner not for programing keys they also have a few other uses

insidently you should not have the code card you dont have them from new
you have to order them by chasis number for the car to get one not that you need one

also get some keys soon as using the red key to run the car will destroy the code ecu and posibly engine ecu i have seen them both sufer

thanks for the advice.. how do i get hold of two blue keys? does the locksmith need 2 anythin except cutt the key? :) thanks ppz

you can buy keys from a fiat dealer to make sure there the right ones take your chasis number

or have a look on ebay for virgin keys ie not cut or used

the locksmith only need cut them

then folow my instructions to make them start the car

i think the keys are about 15 quid each from fiat but well worth it as the car is worthless with a dogy set of keys or no red key

your local dealer will probably stock the keys as people are always loosing them

the garage i work at does but not for long as i will be haing them for mine

insidently the limit is 8 keys if you realy want to go mad

remember using the red key to run the car to often WILL destroy the code ecu

this is the reasone my car is off the road it is also the reasone why i picked up a showroom standard minter of a car for 75 quid

thanks for the advice ppl! (y)

lol 2 more questions lol

my local locksmith says he has keys that ffit fiat.. they aint the proper official ones from fiat. will they do? he says thers a chip in them, so is that ok. if i then follow ur instructions?

ooohhh and do i HAVE to have 2 keys to make the keys 2 work... can i jsut have one blue key like fords?

thanks for the help in advance!!

i know it must be annoying to some ppl but i do need help. im not ready to give fiat 100quid of my money for a car thats worth 400!! iv already spent lots on it. and im gettin frustrated. can someone please help my with the last 2 questions seeing as iv been advised that i may only need one key. it may only seem to be 15 quid but it also needs cutting which adds up to about 25/30 extra

yes you do need 2 keys minimum 8 maximaum

also make sure your locksmith is well aware you want coded keys my car has had a regular key cut for it for some reasone

the keys he can give you are most likely kurtis key if they dont program first time they wont but if they do they shouldnt give any trouble mine has one and it seems to work fine

they should look similar to your original blue keys and have a red resin in the back were the chip was put in if they are black or look dogy make sure he has the right ones

remember to program
red key turn ignition on untill light goes out and of again
first blue keyturn ignition on untill light goes out and of again
second blue keyturn ignition on untill light goes out and of again
then red keyturn ignition on untill light goes out and of again
then wait between 4 and 9 seconds turn the red key on again and
the light should stay on instead of going out this means it has acepted the programing if it goes out at this point keep turning it on and of untill it stays on
then turn it off and wait 15 seconds and try the blue keys

if you have one of your original blue key you can youse one of these aswell as a new one to make it work less the key is gused as sometimes the code ecu forgets the key numbers (this is normaly caused by someone messing around with there perfectly functional keys for unknown reasones lol)

also if you take out your boot lock 2+ 10mm bolts and take that with you to the lock smith it will help him get a perfect mechanical fit for the keys

Hi all

I've just joined the punto club, passed my test last month and opted for a punto active 1.2 8v 2006 (old shape) which I bought second hand. The guy selling it only had one key so I'm on the look out for a spare but the car and insurance has gobbled up all my money so not got much to spend. I have seen an item on eBay (number 271793956257), my question is would this work if I followed the steps above?

Thanks in advance

Neil

This whole thread applies to the older mk1 punto up to 1999, it is absolutely no use to you, your car will never have had a red key and has no way to cheaply or easily program your own keys in at home with out at least some intervention from the local dealer or specialist locksmith

Thanks for the reply fella. I'll give a couple of local locksmiths a call. What price range will I be looking at?

Cheers
