Are there any links to rear brake dismantle (home mechanic of many years) and are the cables difficult to remove although I think it my be adjustment or new shoes. I have not worked on this Fiat model 2009 1.1 ta.

my info is coming by phone and Intermittently :)

Thanks for replies and having read a bit it looks like any other rear brake setup. Latest info was it has been getting worse for some time while I thought it was a sudden problem meaning cable. It now looks like adjustment or shoes and a general sort out. thanks

I strongly recommend to take pictures once the drum is removed. Also do one side at a time (or at least don't mix the parts), superclean the self adjusting mechanism and study how it works: you will have to pre-adjust it once the drum will be re-installed...

Hand brake right up and not holding. Drums off so easy too easy. Adjusters not working, one handbrake lever attached to shoe very stiff and one cylinder piston a bit sticky. No leaks good start. Loads of dust, mask on and gloves Long nails right hand I play guitar badly, some say very badly but I put this down to their oncoming deafness. The setup is like many other makes and quite straight forward. So wife inside car for foot brake on and off as setting up, now freed up, adjusters also a firm pull on the handbrake now and again. finally with just a little bit of drag on the drums the wheels went back on. I had taken out the centre consul, 3 nuts, to access the cables just in case. I tried the hand brake and without any adjustment to cables, which I seldom do, 4 clicks and the brake was well on.
So all in all a nice outcome with no financial outlay for friend.
Next week I will check front Discs and pads although there was time today the coastal path was beckoning with very poor weather tomorrow.
