Hi and WELCOME TO THE FORUM

I assume you are referring to the 1.9JTD or 1.9D. Either way....

Im assuming you mean the gearstick doesnt spring back into the middle position when out of gear, and is stiff to move left right etc...

Pop both of the ball joints on the gear selector cables at the gearbox end off. Go back to your gearstick and "wobble" it. If its still stiff, then you need to replace one or both of the gear selector cables (depending on which direction its stiff in or both).

However, I suspect your problem is more likely to be with the selector mechanism itself. Its extremely common.

Towards the back of the Gearbox you'll see this part with the gear cables going to it, unclip the back cable and undo the nut holding the shaft in (19mm iirc)

Then you slide the shaft out (it'll be really tight) and clean it up with emery paper untill its nice and free when you slide it back in.

You can apply a small amount of silicone grease before refitting, but not too much. Only nip up the lock nut when you put it back on, dont over tighten as it will make it even stiffer (y)

Hope that helps,
Alan
