Just a few questions about the key.

The key has snapped half way down and is almost in 2 pieces. The key has a chip inside which is obviously for the immobiliser.

I can get someone to cut a new key, but cant read the chip.

My questions are:-

1. If I get a new key cut, and hold the old key next to the ignition barrell, will the car still start?

2. Is there anyway of being able to get a replacement key, without spending the £150 from Fiat?

3. Where can I get a new locking system for the car?

Thanks.

Hi mate, and WELCOME TO THE FORUM

1, Yes

2, Technically no.

3, What do you mean by locking system? As in code box, barels etc?

Alan

A decent auto locksmith CAN program MK2 keys.

You are better off removing the transponder out of the original key.

The blue on the keys is a plastic/rubber coating with a hard black plastic key inside. You can safely cut the blue off, cut it at least 1cm above the start of the blue near the blade.

The transponder is in the bottom left (with blade pointing down and the logo facing you)

Thanks for your replys. Basically, the locks need changed (due to ice damage, and a previous attempt of a break in).

If I manage to get new locks, then I will need to change the ignition barrel too, to go with the key grooves in the new locks. Id rather not pay loads of money for this, so I was thinking of getting 2nd hand locks etc, and then re-programming the key.

BUT, Ive heard that the ECU on the MK.2 Punto's can not be virginised to allow space for new keys?

I can supply you with 2 working keys.
Send me your broken key and one of your new ones.
