Had a problem with car taking several turns of the key at about 15 seconds a time. Decided to take off starter motor, and inlet manifold. Manifold was all messy. Cleaned it out, put back on, put a new starter motor on it and all I’m getting is a click from the fuse in the fuse box under bonnet. Battery is healthy I’ve checked that even used the battery out my 1.9 punto and makes no difference. I’ve cleaned all earth terminals checked for them being frayed or split. Assembled the silly plastic thing they use for the power on the starter and still just a click in the fuse box. Lights do not dim when I try start car. Fuel pump is working ok.

I’m going crazy. I’ve searched for help, and done everything that’s been found and still nothing.

Any help would be great

Do the simple things first.

Use a jumper cable from the negative terminal on the battery and earth it anywhere suitable on the engine/gearbox. Or get a friend to try and jump-start your car.

If either of the above succeeds in starting your car, that's pointing towards an earthing problem - particularly where the battery earth cable attaches to the engine/gearbox.

A new battery and starter motor tends to rule out those two items being at fault.

However, the fact that your lights don't dim when trying to start the engine suggests that there's no current being drawn by the starter motor -or an earthing problem.

If , after trying a jump start/jump lead to make an earth and the car still won't spin over .. can you get someone with a tow rope to try and tow-start your car?

If your car starts with a tow that then points to some problem in the starter motor circuit .. cable/earthing.

If the car still won't start when towed, that points towards something like a faulty relay.

I'm sure someone else will be able to point you in the right direction. Let us know how you get on.

Just an update. Tried the jump leads from earth and nothing. Took all earths off cleaned them. Took starter off fitted again checking all cables ect. Still nothing. I decided to check my fuses again and guess what.....starter motor fuse was blown although I checked it before replacing starter motor. Got the car to turn over and start no problem. It came up abs fault but that disappeared and my power steering went too. Disconnected battery and tightened all connections started car and everything all ok.
