Punto (Mk2/2b) Fiat punto 1.2 popping noise

Hi was wondering if anyone can help me....my car passed its MOT today with no advisories.

There is a but.

My car has been making a popping sound from the rear for 6 months now and at first they thought it was a broken spring front passenger side but checked it all over and couldn't fine anything wrong.

They checked the exhaust and thought it may be rubbing against the frame so sawed part of the metal off.

They took it out again and the sound is still there.

It happens in low speeds between gear 1/2 and 3 then stops in higher gears....happens when turning but there's no clicking in wheel.

When slowing down it also makes a popping sound.

Any help would be appreciated it's going back into garage next week for further checks and don't want to be ripped off.

It could be the Rear Dampers; the piston-type things that smooth the suspension... Might be worth jacking the car up and whipping them off to check (One bolt at top + one at bottom)

Just take real car with the bottom bolts - they often do seize into place
You need a decent impact or to just pop the top bolt out and operate it while attached at the bottom - which tbh is probably the easiest way
