Hi Folks,

My friend has a 59plate fiat panda 1.1. if you accelerate hard it starts to lose power and sort of barks, sound like a donkey to be honest. It has been in a garage and they have said it is the ECU? Any ideas and has anyone had is problem before?

Regards

Hi fordmill:)

The 1.1 specifically can suffer from intermittent electrical faults / cutting out / rough running.

Wiring connections on ECU can be loose - strap down with long cable ties.

This would be a good place to start.

If this doesn't help, then you'd probably need to plug it in to diagnostic software to see if it's generating any error codes.

MultiECUScan (MES) is the most popular for FIATs - there is a free version of the software available to download, but you will need the cable.

There is also an MES register on this site where someone nearby might be able to help you: https://www.fiatforum.com/multiecuscan-members-register/

The known 1.1 weakness is only due to movement. Normally cutting out over bumps.

Easily cured by cable tying the ECU connector down. As has been done the last few times it has popped up

If you are rough with the wires it will become unrepairable as per YouTube video.

The symptoms does not match the fault here but worth a quick check.

Pop the MAP sensor out and post a photo

Pop the spark plugs out. keep them in order post a photo.

Do you have any engine check light

Do you have anyway to read data codes.
