Small amount of fuel tipped into each cyclinder
does no harm or some tipped into the top of the
carb.
Might also help if the plugs are heated up too
so they burn your fingers before replacing them.

If the condensors gone you won't get it firing
have a good look at the points if they are badly
pitted then that's a good sign the condensors
not doing it's job.

You need 2 things fuel and a spark at the correct
time for the engine to fire. If you remove the airfilter
case and hand operate the throttle on full depression
you should get a squirt of fuel from the accelerator
pump if not check the pump and any filter.

If you remove a plug or use a spare one lodge it hard
to earth on the engine with something insulated and
turn the engine over you should get a decent blue spark
if it's yellow suspect the leads.

No spark check back to the points, ensure the spring
end is insulated from the dizzy case sometime people
don't fit them properly I think the - wire to the coil
attaches there.

After that check the floor out three sheets of metal
outer cil inner cill and floor pan all meet together at the
on seam below the car, also check the point where the
front seat belt rear floor mounting is as the metal corrodes
around it.

Also check the negative battery lead where it fastens
to the bulkhead before attaching to the engine
the wire corrodes and it stops the engine running.

I was advised to put a thimble of engine oil down the spark plug holes to see if that would help make this car start... has anyone else heard of that???

The only time that technique is used is when doing a compression check. If cylinder compression is found to be low, then putting some oil into the spark plug holes and rechecking the compression will identify whether it is piston rings or valve guides that have failed. If compression goes up after oil is put into the bores then the rings have gone. If compression stays the same then it will be valve guides that have failed.

Using engine oil down the bores to try and start the engine will more likely foul the plugs and make starting worse!

That was exactly what I was thinking. I won't try that then until I can do a compression check.

Thanks for the helpful advice everyone, I'll keep you posted when I get a compression check done.

Lol. Mine took me about a day to perfect. Only change it once a year for that reason :p

A little out of date already mine is though

OK, I have a whole day off tomorrow and spending it all working on dear Agnesa. (I have been asked "Why the strange name?", it means 'gentle' in Italian and I think it suited her!:D)

I will update again tomorrow and let you know exactly whats happening!

Also, I had a phone call recently regarding a Sisley 4x4, I've been offered 2 of them for £600. :eek:One is SORN and a bit tatty but comes with CD Player and CB Radio, the other is immaculate and declared as scrap. I spoke to the DVLA and they said it's £25 charge to re-register the car but can take 10 weeks. So, 2 Panda Sisley's for £600, is that a bargain or should I just take one??!! So confused!! Either way, I will have at least one of them! :D

Sounds like a deal to me...somebody has got the Panda bug bad!

2 for 600? go for it. even if they aren't drivable. you can expect to pay 600 for one usually.

:)Thanks, I'll make sure to get both. Will have to pull the life support plug on little Agnesa now though, haven't got space for 4 Panda's! (only I wish I did!! haha!)

The Sisley's are E plate with 100,000miles and the "scrap" is a G-Plate. Only just found out that the G-Plate is immaculate with all parts inc. bullbars etcetc

I've just now been introduced to another completely immaculate 1000CL. As much as I would like a Sisley, this one is completely immaculate and has everything done to it needed!! Sorry, No Sisley's for me.

OK guys, here are the details I have on the 2 Sisleys. (I haven't seen them, but this is what they have told me). Both of the cars are in Sheffield.

One E-Plate declared SORN in grey. CD Player and CB Radio. installed. bit tatty with big dent in boot door. No bull-bars, but still has towbar. Uses it only off-road and, to be honest, doesn't sound very wel knowing about the car on the phone. Also has 105,000miles on it but says 4x4 gears run well.

The other Sisley is a G-Reg, delcared as scrap (according to DVLA, this can be re-registered for £25 pending investigations and assessment of the vehicle) and belongs to a friend of the first Sisley. This one is apparently immaculate with bull-bars attached aswell. Only been driven on their farm.

The E-Reg is going for £250.
The G-Reg is going for £400.

I'm sure he can be negotiated with as it was on ebay originally but bidding didn't get past £58.

If anyone is interested, I'll call him and ask to give his number to you, so probably best to send me a PM.

I am hoping to get some pics of the cars, once I have them I will post them in this thread.
