It's better, much better, than the mk1, but not cooler. Can't beat the mk1 for retro coolness. The mk2 is almost bland to look at.

It probably was a "better car", but that doesn't matter. The Mk1 will always be cooler.

Bigger, more powerful, more modern, more reliable engine. More modern more reliable transmission. Better built interior.

The bodies are basically the same but plenty changed.

Iirc the mk1 used a turbo charged version of the 1.3 sohc engine found in the Strada with a gearbox from the Strada that wasn't all that strong. The interior was functional but very quirky. It didn't have steering column lights or wiper stalks, but instead flip switches on the dash behind the wheel. The sliding ash tray was also interesting.

The mk2 used a turbo used a turbo charged version of the 1.4 sohc engine from the tipo. It also used the gearbox from the tipi which was a much stronger box. The interior was more modern and on the turbo at least, better equipt. The dash was more convensional and generally better built.

yeah they are very different cars.. Put them next to each other and they are both the recognisable boxy fiat shape but thats pretty much where the similarities end. The main difference is the mk1 is just cooler
