Hi again, the airbag light is on, marea 1.9 slx td, i had a diagnostics test and thought that they were going to switch it off in the price, but they couldn't. I have been told that it is code 13, squib? how do i go about getting the light off? is it an mot item? .thanks dave:confused:

I have been driveing around with the airbag warning light on for 4 years!

The Marea has been into FIAT over this a few times and everytime comes out the same so not bothered anymore...

Not MOT item. If they can't switch it off then it sounds like a ECU or device failure.

OMG I was told by a garage that my car would definitely fail the MOT if the light was on!!! So I guess they are just trying to get more money out of me. May go for the route in another post remove the bulb

Definatly not an MOT item.. i just had a car pass with it on. If they try fail it for that, you could challenge it with an "Unfair refusal of MOT" form (or whatever they call it, and the result will go in your favour.
But if it were me, id go elsewhere. If there trying to catch you out on that, who knows what other bits they'll try to do you over on?

i have the same prolem, and is related with the sensor PPD of right front seat, sensor or the conections

need also help

The airbag light will fail the MOT - if it is fitted the light must NOT be on!
The sensor has triggered a fault code - the airbag may need regassing or checking as fiat suggest this every ten years! look by glove box there is a sticker warning this!

I've been trawling around these forums for some time, and just registered.

Now, I am looking for airbag information, as the warning light on out Fiat marea JTD1.9 is always on (always has been...) and up to now it wasn't a fail item.

According to my MOT tester though, the airbag warning light is set to become part of the test, and a reason for rejection if the light is illuminated when it shouldnt be. (towbars and sockets are also set to become part of the test, be warned)

So, From what I have read, the light is extinguishable from the ECU via a test socket. My tester has a testbook/scanner but we had to buy a cable to connect the 16pin OBDII plug to the fiat 3pin sockets for the engine and abs systems (from a company called scantool-direct...google them, it was £9.99, and was delivered free, next day) so I reckon its worth trying that first to put the light out....BUT, where is the socket? I have the abs test socket, by the fuse box in the engine bay, and the engine management one on the opposite side of the engine bay...but where is the vehicle electrics one? I assume it is in the driving compartment somewhere?

Thanks in advance for any input....

EDIT to add....maybe I should mention its a W reg!

Not a fail yet but will be from next year check www.aceadvice.com always good, plus i dont have a airbag (i have a small momo steering wheel on mine) now i can trick my light into thinking it has a airbag with a 2 amp fuse which is what i will do from next year or i may just take the bulb out. i have never even had a advisory and have run a momo steering wheels on all my marea weekends over the last 6 years

My understanding is...If there is no bulb, its an RFR, as it should light, and go out. If its lit, RFR. If doesnt light RFR.

So, the fuse idea seems best..how would you do that exactly?

(Incidentally, is anybody bothered that if you had a shunt and the airbag should have gone off, and didnt...the Insurers would have a get out clause for not paying up? You know what they are like.....especially if they could prove you bypassed it without their knowledge.)

Thats VERY very helpful, many thanks for the link. I just ordered the cables required, will let you know how I get on.

If you have a laptop you can remove the airbag light with http://www.fiatecuscan.net/Default.aspx all the info how to use and what cable you need is on there. You just need download the Free version.

That URL does not work (anmore). Could you post a new one? I need to reset ma red airbag warning indicator which came on after a bulb caused a short and blew a fuse. (Marea TD 100 HP)
