Yep i can understand all that, and very well put to cheers :) but dosent a main dealer have a higher turn over of cars through the work shop,to conpansate for more Mechanics? or why dont they keep the sale's and workshop seprate as running biusnes ,na i know what your gona say to that, forget that :)

I just dont see why people should pay in some cases double or more an hour for labour because the place doing the job have overhaeds that are higher, it is beyond me why people do?? but they do :?

Oh well (scratching my head here)

Cheers Scotty. :)

I was wondering a bit of the same to be honest! Guess each place operates differently and, at the end of the day, everyone has this beautiful thing called choice. No one forces you to goto the main dealer (just now anyway!)

These are good points but the extra turnover due to volume isn't enough to offset the books in order to half the labour rate. Whilst maintaining the people that work in the department.
Thats not to say they can't do it at a lower rate but they are also meant to be making money and in general they do.

Service and sales are seperate, as are the parts department. All with their own books to balance. Our service department give us more grief over work that cars need done than they give their retail customers.

Last month for instance. Our service department made more money from "sales" work than they did out of their own retail.
With the arrival of the
Fiat 500 the parts department are laughing their heads of with the amount they are going to make out of "sales" work.

Although as Martyn says it's all about choice. I for example will happily admit their are some jobs on MY car that will be done by Arthur long before I use our service department.
