hi all, new here so please bear with me, i own a ducato 2.8 jtd box van, was all running great until 2 days ago, suddenly overheated, pulled over found a water pipe just above the stater motor leaking pouring water all over the starter motor there was then a loud bang and everthing shut down, no power at all, no lights on dash completely dead, i thought stater motor/solinoid had blown, replaced still nothing, replaced battery and power lights on dashboard came on went to start and click evrything went off including lights on dash, decided to walk away for 5 mins, came back lights on dash came back on so tried again and again everthing on dash went out, seemed like as i turn on ignition something heats up and shuts everthing down then when cooled down lights on dash come back on, checked all earth cables terminals all good clean and tight, so tried again this time engine turned over but didnt start but found the positive terminal had got very hot and melted the lead terminal, anyone got any ideas, i was thinking that maybe the bang i heard was alternator or poss coil, but im clutching at staws, many thanks mike

The starter is at the bottom on the front the usual failure the the metal pipe across the top of the engine which spews on the alternator. So which pipe is it?

theres 2 small rubber 45 degree water pipes about 8in's above the starter motor the bottom one of these to failed, which has now been replaced

I the lead terminal melted then theres probably a dead short in the starter or starter cable. Get out your multimeter.
