Hi, I've taken my vehicle reg Nov 2006 to three different garages, each diagnosed a different fault for what seemed like Fuel starvation/flooding! Finally I decided to go to a Fiat garage on 2nd December. A diagnosis came up "from Fiat" through their computer that it was a faulty injector. This apparently has been repaired and tested again, paid the bill of £331 left garage at 5.10pm and by 5.40pm the same fault reappeared and the engine management light came back on. This is the first time in 53 years of driving that I feel completely at a loss to understand why the fault couldn't be found, diagnosed and put right. I was told it seems OK at the moment but it might be another problem. I do know that the engine management light can be switched off through the computer so that it appears OK, until the fault shows itself again! I find this service unbelievable. I'm told Fiat do have a fuel problem, can anyone shed any light on this please. Due to go abroad middle January! The vehicle has done 66000 and up until now I've been lucky not to have had any problems, but now!

Problem has been diagnosed by Fiat Dealer, through their Fiat computer as No 4 Injector. It has been repaired, reprogrammed and tested and van given back to me as OK. Same fault occurred 40 minutes later on way home! Was told the fault may lay deeper! Not very confident about their diagnosis, looks like money spinning venture! I'm a pensioner and therefore every penny is spent wisely, not on testing one fault, repairing it, then finding something else is wrong, where does it end?

Welcome to FF,:)

the fuel rail pressure can be monitored whilst the vehicle is running,
so you'll soon know if it is indeed a fuel pressure issue,

use the SEARCH function - in "advanced", to find similar issues / posts in Ducato section,

modern motoring is full of such niggles, just be glad it's a vehicle that can actually be diagnosed - unlike some other European rubbish.,

did you get the "dud" injector back from the dealer.??
a wiring loom issue has been reported around there,
maybe a £300 repair you didn't require, back to my point of a competent person;)

where are you based, as we may be able to point you in the right direction..,
Charlie - Oxford

Thanks again for your reply. The dud injector was repaired by"specialist in Wellingborough". They charged £121. Invoice says it's OK, only for 40 minutes! Fiat specialists are supposed to be competent people, this garage is also DAF service centre. I was told originally their Fiat computer was away being fixed I should have gone elsewhere but this was the nearest to my storage facility as I didn't want to drive it too far and waited for the return of their computer!

Took van back to garage and stated quite firmly that the faulty injector was not the problem as the fault was still there. I said you have to drive it around until the fault occurs and I'm sure it's something to do with the fuel. Mechanic took it out for over 30 minutes, came back and said, yes, I finally got fault and it's the throttle control valve!!! Their cure, take one out of one of their own vehicles that was going back to Fiat!! Waited all day, read kindle and at 4.30pm garage assured me it was OK. Thanks very much no further bills, Happy Christmas and off I went. Back home now the long way round, got stuck in long queue on Black Cat roundabout and no problem at all. Phew am I a happy bunny!

Put van in storage and then it was time to go off to ferry at Dover. As the van heated up when it was in neutral it started "hunting". Is this due to the new Throttle Control Valve or to the "breather" valves which may have been disturbed during the initial work on the "Supposedly faulty injector"? This fault remained with us during the whole of our journey and didn't seem to disturb the performance of the engine whilst travelling. I phoned original garage and again they wont commit until they have had a look at it. But after the last time I'm not sure I really want to take it back there.

Varesecrazy.. I have a Fault code. PO 401. It says EGR valve intermittent but I have no idea where it is. Maybe under the top engine cover. Its FIAT Motor home Escape 600 ..a 2010 Multijet 100 with only 3,800 on the clock. I cleared the fault but it came back. Tried G8RPI in forum but he is not familiar with my MH.
Hope you can help..and thanks. Terry.
