I'm looking for advice. At the end of September I had my Panda Multijet diesel serviced at the Fiat dealership in Reading. The invoice said for the oil line "Semi Synth". I know that you need 5w-40 fully synthetic oil for the multijet engines, but when I questioned it when I picked up the car, the guy on the reception desk just said "that's just what they have to put on the system, but it is fully synth".

Now, how do I know who is telling the truth? Could this just be someone typing the wrong code in the workshop or did they use the wrong oil and just try to cover themselves? My car appears to be running as it was before the service, but I don't really know if I could tell this early on. If they did put semi-synth in, when would I see negative effects? Any one been in a similar situation to give advice on what I should do?

Thanks in advance.

Is there any reason for you not to believe the dealer? Most dealers are truthful and not out to con people all the time. I'm sure they'd know what oil to put in the Panda by now - and it is an entirely reasonable explanation that the description lines on an invoice is incorrect.

If your car is running OK I don't see what there is to worry about?
The only option is for you to get it drained and buy the oil and put it in yourself if that eases your worry?

Funnily enough it is a bit like your posting - by a small error you have posted in the section of the site for OCD sufferers (car cleaning). But that does not mean that we all think that you have made up the whole story...

As has been said, most people AREN'T out to get you, and if there is a choice between a simple explanation and a Machiavellian one, the simple one will normally be right.
