Hi.... Gonna start putting a few mods on car soon..nothin major..just little trims and bits n bobs but once i start i know i wont stop.

So first i would like to know can you put a fiat coupe turbo enigne into a bravo for when im bored with the performance so i dont have to sell my car and start agian.

I also had a crazy idea bout putting a 6 speed gearbox into the car.. and was wondering if anyone has done it and what car did they get the gearbox from. Id prefer a box with full six gears not 6 crammed into the normal 5 ratio. Any Ideas?? rough price too if at all poss

thanx.

The coupe' engine wll fit, and from memory the gearbox is 6-speed ;)

Not sure if its a full 6 or 6 crammed into the 5 speed box...

I remember reading that the coupe gearbox is too big for the bravo and that one from the lancia / uno turbo is better.

i believe al put the 16v 2.0 turbo coupe engine in his brava with the tipo 2.0 gearbox. i believe it was the best choice as it fitted on the coupe engine and worked with the bravo drive shaft alignment.

I think only the 20V 2.0 TURBO LE had the 6 speed box.

re

I did originally have the 2lt 16v turbo with a 2lt tipo gearbox put in as that was what i was advised originally, but the ratios on that were crap in my opinion, so i now have a lancia dedra turbo gearbox, which is almost identical to the 16v coupe box, it just needs the operation of the clutch changed, from push type to pull, or other way round, cant remember, and also the gear linkages changed.

correct only the le and the plus model coupe's have 6 speed g'boxs and they are all 20v, but you can put that engine in, a scrappy in york has done that, althoguh i havent ever seen it on the road or anythign and it was quite a while back they did it?

as my 16v melted apiston and warped the head i know have an 2ltr 8v integrale engine, more torque anyway! :)

Re: re

I've been looking into this myself, a new 6 speed box for a coupe 20 VT is £1819, a recon one is £950 + £230 surcharge for not having a broken one to trade against it.
Pricey huh?

re

i found a 6 speed box at a breakers for 200 squid,

it had been bench tested and had some warranty with it.

best idea would be to fill out a find a part thing online and wait for a reply.

or keep an eye out on the coupe forum, they often appear when someone spots one at a breakers etc.

"Id prefer a box with full six gears not 6 crammed into the normal 5 ratio. Any Ideas??"

Now thats a strange statement, so are you implying that most 6 speed gearboxes only have 5 ratios? ;)

Nearly ALL 6 speed boxes have the same ratios for 1st and 6th as the equiv 5 speed has for 1st and 5th. 6 speed gearboxes are generally reffered to as 'close ratio'. Closer ratios mean you can run an engine with a narrower power band which means you can get more power out without sacrificing acceleration.

Now some cars like the Holden with great big torquey V8s add a 6th gear as a cruising gear only. Not much use on a small peaky engine.

would the higher top speed on the coupe 20vt not be down to having a longer 6th than the equivalent 5th on an hgt, and also redlining higher up the rev range. the extra power only gets you to the physical limits faster.

If ever you hear thunka-thunka-thunka from your front wheel, pull over; you may well find you have only two wheel nuts left and both of those are probably loose! Not that that has ever happened to me, honest!

thanx everyone.

and i did have it in my head that the extra gear gave the coupe its high top speed.

im gonna mail a few breakers.
let u know how im gettin on

just checked on parkers and it doesnt have the stats for the 6 speed seperate so it will prob be the same..
