Hi,

Over the weekend the alternator went on my bravo and I was wondering if anyone could give me a rough idea of the cost so I can work out if a garage is trying to rip me off.

So far just for the part I have had quotes between £125.00 plus VAT and £250.00 plus VAT but they are all depending on the original part number.

If anyone knows of a good chain of companies that they have used and would recommend I would be very grateful, or if anyone lives near Medway, Kent and knows of a good local garage I would once again be very grateful.

Thanks in advance.

similar situation

im in a similar situation but for a 1998 1.4 petrol (80sx) mines not dead at the moment but if im using allot of electrics (brakes, stereo, headlights etc) my engine will cut, do u think this is either battery or earthing problem, only does seem to do it with headlights (i assume this is because of there draw)

Right....

The alternator on a JTD is an arse to change... and i mean a right pain in the bum!!!!!!

You have to remove the off side wheel, suspension and other bits around it just to get it out!!

Right next bit.... if the engine dies when you turn electrics on thenit could be an earth, alternator, or if just be seising up on you.

a 1.4 alternator is a £35 part from a scrappy!

is the alternator hard to fit in a 1.4 i.e. garage or myself? and though a massive long shot would a 1.9TD alternator fit a 1.4 petrol - my mums has just failed an mot badly, so shes decided time for a new car, wondering what parts i could scrounge off it before scrapping, engine in mint nick if anyones after anything - [email protected]
