Hello guys. I have a problem with the map sensor of my Fiat Bravo 1.2 16V model 2000 (petrol). Any help from you will be very important for me so thanks in advance and sorry for my English! The problem is that I have already changed 3 map sensors in the last 2 months (something that is very expensive for me). Every time after installing a new map sensor I think that I have solved my problem but after 1 month (max) I receive the same red light on my car dashboard (the red light signs for a sec when the engine’s rpm are falling and at exactly 1000rpm). When I go to the service and they start trying to detect the problem always the answer is the same! Map sensor (the indication is the mass of the air is at its maximum) without to be sure what is destroying it. Trying to find what is the reason of the destroying I have already changed lamda sensor and the air control valve that is above the throttle body (I hope I describe it right)) but the problem stays the same. If it makes any help to you the engine idle is 800 rpm but when I am on the move and try to change a gear it falls to 600 rpm! At 600 rpm it goes even every time I try to stop the car. In both situations after a sec it goes to 800 rpm. Do you have any idea what the problem is and how to get it fixed?

Thanks for your answer. I really don't have any idea what the type of the airfilter is mounted but for sure I have changed it too some weeks ago.

Check the wiring and all connectors between sensor and ECU.
Try just removing the sensor and plunging it back in, jiggle the wire around a few times.

Some sensors will share the same power and ground wires, so .. your map could be ok.. but the other sensor can make it seem to fail.

You should also have some other errors like "Manifold absolute pressure signal High" or "Manifold absolute pressure signal Low" any of those would be much more helpful than just saying that replacing a sensor solves the problem.

The examiner gives error PO105 the mass of the air is at its maximum. So the mechanic supposes that the problem is with the map sensor. Thank you for your suggestion to try the wiring and all connectors between sensor and ECU. I will try it for sure.

What the garage has told you is not making sense to me.

Yes a destroyed map sensor is going to give you p0105 because that is the fault code for an electrical circuit problem with the map sensor circuit, and if it is destroyed the circuit will have a problem. However they are telling you the code means the mass of air is at the maximum. It could be the sensor works that way, so as the electrical resistance gets lower the mass of air is measured to be higher. The code though is not talking about flow of air at all, just saying there is an electrical problem.

The garage needs to test the wiring without the sensor connected to make sure the voltages there are correct. If the garage is using the fiat examiner software they should know what they are doing but the impression is they do not.

Something is not right one way or another. Maybe lost in translation?

I don’t think we are lost in translation. I also believe that the mechanic doesn’t know how to solve the problem. That is exactly the reason why I have created this thread here.
