FIAT Apprenticeship

Hi im a 2nd year apprentice on the fiat and alfa romeo apprenticeship scheme, and they told me minimum is £2.60 an hour if your under 19.
Its an excellent scheme by the way made some awsome friends and had so much fun.

If your over 19 you go to national minimum wage which i belive is £4.83

i just googled this and now i wanna do it

RE: min wage

"All employed apprentices must receive a wage of £95 per week. However, as skills develop, many employers tend to increase wages – in fact, research has found that apprentices earn an average of £170 net pay per week."

also, depending on your age, you might have to pay THEM

Bit of googling reveals the following:

From HMRC website:

Minimum wages:

£5.80 per hour for workers aged 22 years and older.
A development rate of £4.83 per hour for workers aged 18-21 inclusive.
£3.57 per hour for all workers under the age of 18, who are no longer of compulsory school age.

Apprentices under age 19 will not qualify for the national minimum wage.

Apprentices over age 19 and in the first 12 months of their apprenticeship will not qualify for the national minimum wage.

From DirectGov website:

Opportunities for adults aged 25 plus

Apprenticeship opportunities for people aged 25 and over were introduced in August 2007.

What’s available in your area will depend on the types of skills local businesses need from their workers. You’ll be able to apply whether you’re already in work or not.

So I may not even get minimum wage in first year but could get more thereafter.

Think my best bet is to apply and see what figures are put to me. I'm looking at a 7-8K salary reduction to do this but tax credits should make most of it back it I hope.

I'm also epileptic so I'll have to see what they say about my health safety, that and my age will be the two biggest hurdles.....

That said though this is something I really want to do and nothing ventured nothing gained as the saying goes.
