Common opinion on here and also the 500 forum suggests not. There may be different "functions" inside each type of lamp that are not in the other (e.g. the reversing lamp) so the connector plug is very likely to be different.
If you did manage to wire it up so it worked, you would then have a potential issue with the new style lights, which I believe (I only have one.. but I haven't looked into it) are LED. They could throw up a "bulb failure" warning, since they would use less voltage than your tungsten bulb, unless you add resistors.
The front collision warning system also somehow uses the rear lamps for some kind of monitoring, so an uncorrected change in the voltages of the rear lights would likely throw up an error, if you have the FCW system.
It's probably not impossible... but not plug in and go.
