Fiat 500x 1.6 multi jet diesel problem- Hi all- I've recently had a change oil alert which was done with new filter, which has then led to further limp mode and EML. Code for the variable oil pressure valve, which we have replaced and now still got the EML having also changed the oil pressure switch- error code is stating 'unusual values from oil switch 2' or something similar- does anyone have any suggestions? A bit lost with it now!

Apologies for the late reply. If the EML came on after the oil change then it sounds like you have used the wrong grade or quality of oil. The are several listings on line that detail this.

using the wrong type of oil in a Fiat 500X can cause the engine management light (EML) to come on:

  • Check engine light
The wrong type of oil can affect a vehicle's performance, damage the engine, and trigger the check engine light.

  • EML
The EML warns you of an issue with your car. A flashing amber or red EML indicates a more serious issue that should be addressed as soon as possible.

  • Fiat 500X
The Fiat 500X has a high-tech performance monitoring system with sensors that detect conditions and send data to the electronic control unit (ECU). If the ECU detects that the data is out of factory specifications, the EML will illuminate.

Has the car been told the oil has been changed? If not, it will still assume old oil, and with its earlier oil change warning being 'ignored', it will do its best to reduce power, to 'save' the engine.
Need the codes read to determine what the MIL is trying to say.

When a service is done then besides the normal Service Reset there is also an Oil Change Reset which is in the Engine ECU node and not the Service node.

For your 500X 1.6 Mulijet then this would be the relevant info for the Oil Change Reset.

This procedure updates the parameters relating to the engine oil quality in the control unit.
This procedure is necessary every time the engine oil is replaced on vehicles with DPF filter and when the 'low oil pressure' led blinks in the dashboard.

Turn the key OFF and wait 60 seconds after successful execution of this procedure to let the ECU reset its internal registers.
