Technical Fiat 500L getting stuck in gear when in traffic or heavy clutch use

Hi, since about January my car has been getting stuck in gear when I've been in heavy traffic, for say half an hour or so, or doing alot of changes, or at alot of traffic lights and roundabouts. It's not all the time.I've just spoken to the garage, who have just taken her out to try and recreate the fault for the third time. She doesn't fault for them. It's £50 each time, and I don't have the money. I need to go into the city for the dentist, and am too scared, as it only happens there, not in town. The city is about 15 miles away on a 60-70mph road. I guess Bubbles ain't a city girl.

The first time it happened I'd been in traffic about an hour (I did have a bad habit of staying in first and creeping forward, but don't do that now). I went to go into second, and couldn't change. The only thing I could do was stall, then I could get out of first. The last time I got stuck in first as I parked at the dentist. On the way home that day I couldnt get out of fourth on the dual carriageway, so just went in the slow lane. It hurt my soul. As I came off I was in neutral and couldn't find a gear. So I went to garage, who took it out, and it was fine for them.

I promise it's not me, I promise it's actually happening. Today the garage said they can't take her apart to look without feeling the fault. But he drove her 26 miles today, and Bubbles was fine.

Has anyone experienced this please, and how did you resolve it. It's really scaring me, and I've been avoiding going back to the dentist as I'm scared of the gears getting stuck in the city again. There's no bus, and my tooth is a nightmare.

I feel like they think I'm mental as it's fine for them. It happens in cooler weather as well as hot.

First of all: you are in the 500 Abarth section...
Second sounds like a hydraulic problem. Mastercilinder sucking in air? Or a leak at the slavecilinder?

i thought abarth was the same as fiat 500. sorry. Thankyou.

I'm confused as where to post, as my car looks the same as abarths, and when I've watched arbath videos, it's my car.

I also have 3 doors, so I dunno what's going on, as theres an L after the 500.

I have been having the same issues with my fiat 500 I just try to park up turn the ignition on and off and it resolves the problem at first I thought it was the clutch

hi,

I managed to fix this a couple of months ago with help from everyone here.

Here are the first four things to consider trying. they get more expensive as you go along. The final one solved it for me. I did it all myself, having no experience with cars before. They were all easy jobs, just a few niggles along the way. And a lot of swears.

1. Bleed the clutch.

2. Replace the clutch fluid.

3. Replace the clutch slave cylinder.

4. Replace the clutch master cylinder.

Some ppl say to do both cylinders at once, but the master was about £150, the slave was about £30. So I tried the cheapest first. I had no idea those parts existed until I changed em.

The worst bit for me was the battery tray. Absolute scenes.

you need some clutch/brake fluid for ure car. you can check online which one with ure reg, but if ure not sure, ask on here.

you need to take the battery tray out, and the battery trays are different. mine is different to the vid im about to send.

you can bleed the clutch alone, i did, but its easier with someone else.

this vid shows the slave replacement, and he bleeds it at just after 18 mins. bleeding means to get the air outta the system.

that vid doesnt show where to put the clutch fluid, so theres probs better vids on youtube.
