Having owned my Fiat 500 1.2 Lounge for a few months now and clocked up a few thousand miles I've discovered a few tips and tricks that might be beneficial to other new and old Fiat 500 users:

1. The indicator stem is good for indicating left and right, but if you press the button on the end of it, it provides several other options which change on the central display depending upon how many times you press it from 'range' before you run out of petrol or diesel - in my case the estimated ranges gives up when it drops below 30 miles, to 'average fuel consumption', 'instant fuel consumption', etc.

2. If you look further behind this indicator stem you will see a + - and menu button on the dashboard, if you press the menu button whilst the ignition is on and then press the + or - buttons you will be presented with a whole new set of default menus ranging from setting the time, whether the day lights are on, to auto door locking when the vehicle is moving.

3. And to anyone with an iPhone or similar phone with bluetooth enabled, you may be able to make and receive phone calls handsfree - also note that if you click on 'accept' to the phone book, you can scroll through your phone book using the buttons on the steering wheel. And as an added bonus, if you are listening to music, whenever a call comes in, it is automatically muted.

4. Not necessarily the most important tip, but the third button on the remote opens the boot of the car.

Anyone else have a few tips and tricks they have discovered whllst using this gem of a car?

Regarding point number 1 if you twist the stalk it activates lights at the front of the car which makes it a lot easier to see when it's dark.
Also the best thing ever is if you pull the stalk back when you've parked and turned off you can get the lights to stay on for a short time, which is great for playing tricks on people to make them think you've left your lights on. Who knew car designers had such a sense of humour.

Isn't the menu button on the right hand stalk?

No s*********t sherlock. You've gotta be a troll..

Be careful bgunn;

Definition of a Troll: 'A member of an internet forum who continually harangues and harasses others. Someone with nothing worthwhile to add to a certain conversation, but rather continually threadjacks or changes the subject'.

Sounds familiar to what you are doing - have a nice day ;)

I'm guessing that quite a few Fiat 500 owners have missed the relevant menu button tucked away on the dashboard next to the headlamp adjustment buttons.

not to be funny, but it's hardly "hidden"

Anyone who doesn't read the manual and understand how their car works deserves to miss out on features anyway :)

I totally agree with you, but you have to admit that the Fiat 500 manual isn't the clearest instruction manual ever produced.

it is actually pretty good.

Unless , of course, you get it in CD form like I did with my TA Lounge:bang:. Booklet version like my OH has with her 1.2 Pop is a boon.(y)

Thanks, I will. Sorry, but your instructions are hardly 'enlightening', and they're wrong. The Trip computer menu button is on the end of the wiper control stalk.

So please check your facts before spreading your amazing knowledge :)

The funny thing is that the two things that people genuinely do miss are not on this list - the under seat storage cubby and the little drop down flap in the glove not-box.

Ah well, at least I am now smiling on a Monday morning. Brilliant.

PS I hear that the 2013 model has new improved rounder wheels.
