One option is an F1 style electric turbo charger. Lag free (full boost at idle), and while you won't be able to make huge peak power without internal mods, that low end boost means it will be potentially quicker in traffic than a full Abarth.
You maintain stock reliability and the mod can be undone with minimal effort. Most ECU's will be able to compenstate for the increased airflow without remapping (although clearly a good idea).
