HI there, yesterday i met up with a mate. His car is a fiat punto 1.2 16v sporting on a S plate and mine is a Fiat punto 1.2 8v 60s and it kept up quite easlily. He started getting away when i got into 4th gear. why is this??? my car is standard (engine wise) and his car has a viper induction kit? can somebody tell me??? Thanks Dan

I Was Ragging It, He Felt Like A ****. I Pretty Sure He Was Trying Pretty Hard. My 60s Beats Many Other 60s's Though, Is There Any Reason For This????

50 should still be in 2nd at that speed if your going for it. :p in 4th....that what at least 80 if your going for it properly :/

But i would guess naff driver naff clutch control not launching it at decent rpm etc etc.

Sometimes I have seen many "one off" punto 8v engines that seem to be very fast, faster than the standard cars.

My mk2, when it was standard, could beat any other mk2 8v very very easily.
After a simple induction kit from APexi I beat sportings, still, I am pretty sure that the engine has no mods.

You are not alone ;)

the 8vs are actually really nippy, just the top end compared to a 16v is lacking, I know this from my mate always overtaking me in his 1.2 16v, not asif Im trying to beat him though Im not an idiot, I prefer to drive safely :D, if I wanted to rag it I would.

Just got a new exhaust today feels alot quicker now.

My 8v seems to be reasonbly quick, compared to slightly "quicker on paper" cars. But I think it's more in the driving than the car. I have heard stories of people getting rid of Punto's because they're slow, so it seems there's a lot of variation in them...

While I'm here, I've just agreed to P/X my Punto, so if you want a 70k mile Mk2 ELX 5dr then make me an offer and I can see if the garage would prefer to have cash (since they're making almost nothing on the deal anyway).

Some 8v's seem to be better than others. The ones which I've heard of usually have bad fuel economy compared to the advertised figures.

My 55s is producing 66.9bph at the fly with an induction kit only, the previous owners (all ladys wouldn't of modded it) kept it in good condition with annual services and repair work done when needed.

May be how the engine was run it when it was first purchased, or have a slightly larger engine capacity? Lighter than normal parts? Parts from a higher model but sold as a lower one?

As others said, may be the condition of the cars, his car may need an oil and plug change, whereas yours could of been done recently?

Weight of the car? May of been that he has cargo onboard, subs etc, and you do not. I used to beat my mates 1.1 Saxo with ease off 30's into dual carriageways, but as soon as I put my ICE in I'm still winning but not as easy.

Still, a sporting should beat a 60s, could be put down to gear changes, launch, how many revs it was being given and so on.

Possibly because the cars knackered from all that *street* racing. You know you shouldn't really advertise the fact your street racing, especially when your in 4th which would mean your at least going 50mph.
Shut up you faggot!! i would be at least doing 80mph in 4th!!!

I have also notice the little 60's are quicker off the mark than the 16v models, maybe just more low end punch, or a bit more compression.

I can also keep up with a few sportings I know (mk1's of course), its only really on medium fast up hills (40-60mph), anything slower, no prob, anything faster no prob, just that sort of imbetween speed.
Had mine on the rolling road at garage when it had its MOT, and it was knocking out 66BHP at the wheels, which is very odd, considering its std and mean't to knock out 59BHP at the flywheel. Any reason for this?????

will if yours was keeping up with that sporting then it must have something seriously up with it, i had a punto sx60 and when i bought sporting well theres no competetion there, sx60 is 60hp and sporting is about 86hp am sure there close in power and speed :bang:

my sporting will keep up with a 1.4 and 1.8 ford focus and a MG ZR 1.6, my sx60 was terrible i wouldnt even try to race anything in that

my mate had a sporting aswell he was keeping up with a 2.0 Williams 2 (y)

r do i know but he was until he crashed it, punto wasnt as good as williams taking 45 degrees corners, williams straight around punto just carrryed on straight and hit pavement rite off, twisted frame

I must say that my punto mk2 8v is fast at accelerating etc.. (probably faster than other 8v's?), sometimes I think it's a 16v, but I guess that's just wishful thinking.

Mind you I do take it to 70mph in 3rd when overtaking :p

Likewise here, what are your revs at that point?
