With you, Josh and me, that's 3 Stilos and the M62 & A1M covered. It just needs the rest on the country now.

The out-laws live in Middlesbrough, so I could "collect" stilosporting on the way over the M62 then you on the A1, drop the wife and dog off at her mum's then see who we can pick up in Tyne and Wear. Through Kielder then over the border, through the lakes picking up whoever we can en-route. It might be an idea to make it 2 or 3 days and stick to the North East, North West and borders. If everybody enjoys themselves then we can plan something a little bigger for the future.

Sorry stilosporting, put my last one up before I saw yours. I'm game if you are. We could meet up on evening, say, Hartshead Moor services on M62, then if there's anybody else from the region wants to come along, maybe we can make some plans.

im interested in this, if you can get a route sorted ill come!!
This started with a lot of interest (sorry, this might drag on a bit) but slowly but surely interest seems to have wained. The object of the exercise appears to be, and it's flexible and open to change, to drive as a group or convoy on a route to include England, Wales and Scotland, camping or staying in B&Bs. The problem is that some want to camp and others don't. Well, it's not a military exercise and the object of the exercise is to see some of the country while having a good time with people who have a common interest. The country is bigger than most people think it is so most of us would not have the time and money to do all of it. What could happen is that an overall circuit of Britain could be planned but people could join or leave as they wish. Personally I'm thinking of renting a motorhome which I would sleep in and could also be used as a form of HQ. Perhaps if people could post dates when they are NOT available with the implication that they are free at all other times. It will take a lot of planning with people in specific areas suggesting good roads and things to do, such as go-karting or paint balling, in their area. The other thing to remember is that this run (if it goes ahead) does not belong to anyone in particular and everybody should have an input. Instead of having a central meeting point, people, either in groups or singly could join the group as it passes through or near their area. All thoughts gratefully received.

glad your still pushing this TB. ive been distracted for various reasons lately. :(

we ARE going to hit wales and scotland so can people please help by listing things in these places that are worth a visit? then we can shortlist them. i think we should try and stick to 1000 miles round trip. not including traveling to and from the start point.

mabee if u get a map, plan a route and dates, and people could look and say where they will join in, personally im up for nw england, round scotland n back. not all but iwll do northern half. defo in tho

were planning on getting together to put that kind of stuff down on paper. its going to have to be watch this space until then ;)

Im afraid im out.

Im planning to get some serious track and 1/4 mile time done, so all the money is going into that.

even though i was up for this before, i might be out now as well :(

just thought if i do it, 1000 miles closer to needing a service, cambelt, tires etc and i dont have much money.

plus if i save the money i would use for fuel etc can go on a remap maybe (y)

These are only a few ideas and only seen from my point of view so they are infinitely variable depending on what everyone would like to do. This will doubtless be a bit long-winded, so sorry in advance. From the North West, the A49 which starts in central Lancashire and actually goes all the way to near Ross-on-Wye near Gloucester. We don't have to go that far but could turn off at Shrewbury on to Welshpool, Machynlleth and Aberystwyth. Turning back East on the A44 or the (reputedly excellent and nearly parallel) A4120 through Devil's Bridge and then South of Brum. (M42?) Leicestershire and Notts. are areas I don't know much about so if anybody can fill in the gaps here that would be great. I'm then thinking of nipping round Leeds and up past Harrogate to Ripon and the Yorkshire Dales. After Ripon (as an example), we could divert on to a loop through Masham (is there still a Theakston's brewery there?) joining the A1M at Scotch Corner then leaving it again and going up the A68 to Edinburgh. Because this is getting pretty long winded (again) I'll cut it a bit short. We could then cut across South/Central Scotland then turn South through the Lake District and then home.

There could be any number of diversionary loops like the one I mentioned from Ripon. If people want to use their local knowledge to highlight good roads or things to see and do in their areas then some could go and do that and others could take a more direct route and chill out while they wait for the other group to rejoin them. I've deliberately missed out Southern England and Northern Scotland because of the distances involved. I once planned a motorcycle ride round the coast of Britain without using motorways and guesstimated the mileage at about 3500! That's about the distance from Britain to New York!

These are all just ideas and the more people that get involved the better. I think we need to start to get our skates on as we need to find dates that suit everybody, find and book campsites and B&Bs not to mention save up. Don't forget, if need be anyone who joins in doesn't have to go all the way, in fact why not join for the day if you can't manage more. I told you this would go on a bit (alright, a lot) but then my motto is "Why use 10 words when 1000 will do. Thanks for your patience. If you get involved it will keep me quiet, a bit.
