hi sven as your the most knowledgable one here perhaps you can help me ????

my abs light has come on and have visited my mate that has diagnosed it to be the rear left sensor my question is that are all the sensors the same on the bravo/a marea as when i had the rear disc setup off the rat2 i also had the rear abs sensors but not sure if they are the same as mine as mine is a 1.6 and the rat2 was a 20v both 2002 models so im wondering if they are the same and how easy are they to change

many thanks

There are in general 2 types, one for mk2 and one for mk1 (different abs working system, same working procedure). Changing is easy, one bolt and one connector under the rear seat. The rubber grommet can be tricky.
All in all best would be to take the one you have off and get a new/ used one comparing the one you have with the new one.
If you take it off, its the same as it is, the abs light will be on and brakes will function with the abs off.

If you need the correct one - give me your chassis number or in your case the number of the rat2, because the setup is from it.

Andy - ABS the story of my life, i bought a brand new rear sensor from fiat £48, i have also changed a rear hub on my HXL and that came up at £47+VAT from Andrew Page not sure if there will be one near you...

Very unlikely to be the Hub at fault unless you can see any damage to the visable magnetic ring on the hub so i would go with the sensor and get that changed....

As Sven said very easy to change the sensor!!

my mate diagnosed it on a machine and it said left rear sensor fault so presume its the sensor so im going to change that first if not then the hub.
i have both as spares as i had it all of the rat 2 so im lucky there.
was going to chuck it all when i moved but decided not to and kept it all glad i did now

thanks for all the advice
hope you get to the bottom of your problems karl feel really sorry for you

well i decided after having a long think about it all day to have a go myself and try and save myself £35 my mate was going to charge to replace the sensor
well the start went well then came the bit where the sensor broke and then i got annoyed and tried to get it out in the end i hit with a hammer and screwdriver from behind and pushed it thru only to realise that it didnt want to come out as it was to long so hammer and screwdriver again and broke it in half again first bit comes out but the larger bit at the end just wouldnt go past the ring on the hub as it was a really tight fit but with a little wiggling and some wd40 managed to get it out with only the smallest of marks on the ring
so put the replacement sensor in and put it all back together hoping where i had caught the ring it would be alright and a little test drive later and both ebd and abs lights have stayed out

so yippee another job done and another little bit of the rat2 lives on

apart from breaking the sensor, was it hard? also did you get any pictures?

congrats on sorting it!

stephend

sorry stephen didnt get any pictures but its a very easy think to do apart from breaking the old sensor

step1. lift up back seat cushion and remvoe sound proof mat
step2. unplug sensor and remove small strip panel from bottom that goes from c post to b post and under that it exposes the rubber gromet that take the cable thru the chassis
step3. remove plastic cover from underside by back wheel either to expose fuel filter or other side depending which side its 3 8mm bolts that hold the cover on then pull wire thru
step4. jack car up and remove wheel to expose drum or hub
step5. unclip wire along swing arm and undo 10mm bolt that holds sensor in
step6. remove sensor by any means possible and then its just a case of just putting everything back together.
step7. go for road test and wait for abs light to go out and if it does job done.

YAY Andy!

one thing though, i would test it, just to make sure. You don't want to be driving down the road, slam your brakes on and slide out of control.

I'm sure it is all fine tho, well done!

Darren

if the abs light is off then the system is working but i did say give it a test drive after finishing
but officially it states in the handbook that you should get it re-diagnosed to make sure that there are no further faults

but yeah im coming to brooklands :)
