just to randomly interject, i prefer the facelift interior AND the facelift exterior. I love the bigger grille, lol.
That said, yours is a sweet ride anyway...

Are you taking about the facelift 156 or the 159?

I also dislike how they've moved the rear handles so they aren't "hidden" anymore - puts me right off :(

You'll still to experience Angel's touch Buzz, tis much sweeter :)

Still a nice bit of kit whatever your preference's.

Who would have thought that a simple question to start a thread off would end up at 40-odd replies and still going strong...

Who said the art of conversation is dying!!!!!!!!

...and noone's crying yet, amazing :)

Well anyway Martin, good luck with the new motor - you'll fookin' love it, maybe not as much as a Bravo though ;)

im not sure about the facelift, that new grill doesnt really go with the car.

im pretty sure you wont be dissapointed with the alfa, so long as you choose a good spec.

Personally the latest Alfa 156 2.4 JTD 175BHP Multijet is one of my favourite Alfa's, with the facelifted exterior and interior. My Brother has the 2003 Alfa 156 2.4JTD Veloce 150BHP version and it does look extremely nice.

However Matt if your looking for fuel economy why are you considering the 2.4JTD? It does approx 42MPG compare this to a 1.2 Bravo with 42MPG.

Now bring in the insurance, the 2.4 JTD 175 is Group 16 on the insurance compared to Group 5 Bravo.

Besides driving a much bigger and luxiourious car, you are no better off fuel wise. There is no advantage besides the mentioned of owning the 2.4 JTD over your current car. If you want MPG get a Bravo JTD, Punto JTD or even a Alfa 156 1.9 JTD Multijet.

Very good point there. If you're wanting better fuel economy, go for a 1.9. However I've been reading on AO that the 20v can achieve over 50MPG. It's really all about how you drive and if you want that little bit extra power and that beautiful 5-pot sound :)

how much are you looking at spending? its hard to find a low milage diesel for a good price.

Me again....

It's not Matt that's looking at a 156, it's me..

I appreciate all your points about the 2.4 being a bit thirsty at 42mpg, but believe me, that's a damn sight better than my current motor.

I travel around the south of England quite a lot and I personally like a bigger engine for motorway mile munching it's another one of those "size matters" things.

Always fancied an Alfa, I used to drive a 155HGT and I'm afraid once you've driven an Italian car you're hooked, they've got a personality and quirkiness that other car makers can't achieve. They seem to go like the clappers, sound fantastic and usually have the worst brakes in the automotive world...but you can't help loving them.

German cars are sterile unless you go for the uber costly versions, French cars are not my cup of tea, Jap cars are reliable and well built but they just don't stimulate me.

VIVA ITALIA!!!!

The brakes ain't that bad :) If you want to upgrade keep an eye on ebay, GTA Brembo's go on every so often ;)
