Notice from your sig that you've got an ALFA 156 and it's been "interfered with" by ANGEL TUNING.

1 What's the 156 like in standard form?

2 Is the Angel package worth the money?

I've come into a bit of cash and have always fancied an Alfa, the 2.4 JTD could suit me for work, rest and play as it were...

Comments from anyone else also appreciated..

ive got a 2.0jts, very nice car.

dual climtae control and some other goodys, the seats are very comfortable (leather) the ride is nice and the handling isnt bad. so far i havent got a bad word to say about the 156.

Originally my 156 was 136bhp and when the turbo kicked in it was fast, the pull of the thing was unbelievable compared to my 1.6 Bravo. Angel came down an put he "soft" remap in there and now it should be putting out about 180bhp. They have a map which can give me over 200bhp but the torque would destroy the clutch (hence I'm currently looking for a sports clutch :))

With the remap the turbo comes in earlier giving me crazy pull from 1,500RPM round to 5,000RPM :):)

If you get the 150bhp JTD you should get 200bhp without too much issue, if you go for the latest 20v JTD you can get over 220bhp!!! :)

I've found the 0-60 is a bit better but it's acceleration within gear that brings a smile to my face. My mates keep saying, oh I only have to drop a gear and I'm away...well I only have to drop my right foot and you'll be eating my smoke fool :)

With regards to price, it's usually about £350 which is value for money however I paid about £230 because I got mine done along with 8 other Alfas - needless to say I was very happy.

I agree with g5een about the interior - they feel well put together. The ride is smooth but is not really suited to going fast - hence I'm also saving up for a new suspension kit to stiffen things up a bit.

I must say that if you like tinkering with your motor you'll have your work cut out - most of it is an absolute dog (especially getting the sidelights out).

when i phoned up about buying a ht he reconed he could get a 0-60 time of 6.5 seconds out of a 150 jtd but to be honest i like my petrols to much even if its more expensive to get that sort of acceleration lol

Thanks for info guys.

Never thought I'd find myself contemplating a diesel, but I've heard such good reports that I'd be a fool not to contemplate it..

As an aside, if you go for a sizeable uprate, does it affect the fuel consumption to any great extent, I'm not overly bothered, never much been one for mpg figures, but it would defeat the object a bit...

Nah, bollxxxs to that, stupid question, the enemy will be most impressed that I'm settling down with a diesel after all my other non-sensible motors, and what she doesn't know won't hurt her will it....!!!!

Mine was the same before and after the remap - but mine is crap for some reason, I stress it's not remap related.

Martin,

Diesels are definately the way forward if you do a lot of miles and want a LOT of power. I just had a new Intercooler and Stainless pipework on my VW Bora - It's approximately 200BHP now with 330lb/ft Torque!

HOWEVER, if you're very careful with the right foot, you can acheive 70MPG on the motorway and about 50MPG around town.

This is my 1.9 ST TDI Bora..

It's also good for about 145MPH. 0-60 comes lavishly quick too. :)

I forgot to mention - My only engine mods "as such" are the Intercooler, Stainless Pipework and Angeltuning.

30k miles and still original clutch (88k now)

You'd never get 50mpg from the 2.4 unless it's the 20v. At the moment mine is averaging 29mpg (34 max) but I'm currently working on increasing this to the norm of 42mpg - still not bad for the power you have on tap. With the 70litre tank you should get a range of about 600miles+.

If you took those oversized alloys off it'll be much more quicker and improve MPG. But thats obviously a mod you prefer.

Joske, I've been contemplating it - believe you me. LOL. The wheels are beautiful to look at, just speed-bumps and general driving can be a little bumpy..

Martin!!

That's not a very nice way of talking about your other half!! :p

What's your point Kate?

:)

Thanks for the input guys..

I've got to visit a customer this morning, but on the way back I'm going to see a 55 plate 156 with only 21,000 on the clock in some sort of dark blue metallic colour with leather and all the toys....

Kate...

She'd understand, I can't spend all my time worshipping the ground she walks on..!!!!!

If you take it out for a test drive listen for knocking sounds - not sure if this is still an issue with the newer 156's but it means the suspension will need looked at. Other than the usual things to look for it should be ok :)
