they make you hit the limiter to see how much crp comes out the back??

engine torture for a diesel, esp unloaded

but aren't remapped diesells hugely sooty, like this one:-
its on youtube, a filthy mk2 jtd booting out more soot that you thought possible on the dyno:yuck:

great but will they try it five times if it fails the other four

Limit 3.0 actual 0.3 :D

Granted having it bounced off the limiter isn't good - but as long as the cambelt is changed and the limiter is working  then there shouldn't be any problems. The Marea handled it comfortably with a quick vroom and ping... green light and its a pass (y)

This new test is just a quick vroom, the old test was rev knackers off it until the light goes out.. then repeat another 4 times..

Yep, they took an average reading over each rev. Best advice to give, is to put 2 bottles of diesel injector cleaner in the tank after servicing the car prior to MOT test and then taking it for an Italian tuneup down the motorway.
One trick the Black Cabs do, is to adjust the limiter down so the engine will not rev above 2000-2500 revs!! There has been cases on Black Cabs of belts snapping, and the council refusing compensation.
As for the JTD smoking badly, black smoke is unbunt fuel, and proberly the car is overfueling due to the re-mapping. Modern direct diesels are very clean or should be.

or run the car on bidiesel that way theres no smoke at all and the emissions are a lot lower
