Styling Fancy going a bit more retro

Considering painting some of the lettering on my tyres white to give it a bit more of a retro feel

What sort of paint would be the best for this as I imagine it would need to be done with a brush, is there specific paint types for painting rubber?

Edit: I'm asking here as the 500 and the 126 are probably the only cars on this forum that could properly get away with so assume one of you has done it or knows how

Used to to it with a white wax crayon. Doesn't last for ever but it's easier to get off if you don't like it.

Nice one, so not paint eh :chin: Sounds like it should be fairly cheap though, and easy to touch up if it needs it ... just carry some crayola to any meets

There is a special white tyre paint available, I put some whitewalls on my 126 once... however the paint yellows and cracks and then looks awful! Trust me, painting the letters on the tyre will look rubbish

Damn How long did it take for it to crack and yellow you reckon?

Very quickly, you have to throughly clean the tyres first as all the black bleeds through. I once did some Vespa tyres and washed them in the bath for ages, still it all bled through.

If you go somewhere like a car accessory shop, they might have the little pens that you can use to do the letters.... just dont paint the remould bit or made in china!!!

LOL! Nah, was just gonna do the Manufacturer/model and size. I'll probably try it first with the wax crayon and see how it looks, and if I don't like it can always scrub it off

My neighbour did it to his 4x4 tyres and it looks ace, plus classic american cars look ace with it done

Frazer.. on my 126 and old panda 4x4 i used a white tile grouting pen within some of the letters.. lasted a while and looked okay, but started to run after a bit :doh:

Are those any good - I know its not a cheap option, but you might find them cheaper elsewhere ? And atleast you would know it would last.

Tried to reply at work but stupid thing wouldn't let me, I'm not after whitewalls and from what I've read those trims damage tyres. Just want to paint the lettering (not all of it) and wondered if that would be a good hard-wearing paint.

Just a thought - what about Humbrol enamel paint that is used by model makers?
