Right well decided time for the cinq to go and get something a bit quicker to start with....

So thinking the sensible choice a Coop :eek:

Not quite decided on which model though, but will definately be a turbo. But torn between the 16vt and 20vt...

Obviuosly the 20vt is quicker on paper etc but with 40years of motorsport under the belt of the 16vt engine it'd be silly to ignore that one...

So any real major difference drving them on the road?
Running costs look pretty much the same on both?

(Btw before anyone points out being able to afford to run one trust me i've looked into it as well as the insurance guess working away all week is good for something)

Also if anyone spots any "bobby dazzlers" for around 2-2.5k feel free to post away ;)

And yes i am searching on FCCUK (y)

Cheers all :)

20vt everytime. Modding potential is better and better sound IMHO. Most people from FCCUK go from 16vt to 20vt if they have the money!! :D

You don't want a coop, they are horrible, noisy things. Have you thought of one of those little cinquecento things? :D

I'll post the two handy links again

Look at a few first, don't even take money to see the first couple so you're not tempted. That way you'll get a feel for what's a lemon and what's not. Bocker's buyers guide is comprehensive and as long as you stick to it you'll be okay. And DON'T buy a yellow one, they're jinxed :p

With regard to the ubiquitous 16vt vs 20vt, different opinions about both, check them both out. I've owned both and I think the 20VT is the better car. But I'm sure sumplug will be on here to sing the 16vt's praises!

Well not a man of wisdom when it comes to Coupes but be rude for me not to say hello here seen as i'm basically funding this jump up to sports car from hot hatch.
Still not found any minters for your price range yet Jamie but as an update, the beetle wouldn't start y'day but hoping its just the battery. Going to try again later (charged batt over night). Its all clean though and i got the bits to change oil. So if she starts tonight just gotta check over the electrics and brakes and its time for MOT, turbo fund getting closer ;)

having driven both, although not owned either, i would have the 16vT every time. The 20v to me was more refined, user friendly were as the 16v was a bit rougher and harder, seem to give more feed back.

Cheers for the replies :)

Yeah not sure why i'd want a coop not very good looking and they are made by fiat :eek: lol

Will have a good read through the guides cheers and enlist my mechanic to check the ones i look at (My dad :eek: )

Hopefully will be a new members motors thread soon :yum:

Hey Jamie getting more serious then, cool i think you should go for it, its not like you need to drive the car everyday any more, so it limited mileage and pampered life for the car, so which every you go for it's all good. And hey I have the same basic engine in my integrale so know my way about it, and could have in my possession a nice tubular manifold fitted with big T4 turbo that was used on 11sec 1/4 mile grale ;) big power big lag lol :D

You know I have always liked Coupe's and wouldn't mind another drive of one may allow you to drive the 'grale in return :p

As an aside;

If it comes down to outright tuning potential no holds barred, then it has to be 16V as it's really is in a league of its own. Yes 20V's are good engines, but don't have the history of competition breeding of one of the most successful motorsport engines ever, 27years of competition use winning GT world championship beating the 911's, 6 WRC titles on trot with 'grale, two with Fiat 131, one with 037 and there are others wins. There are integrales running 850+bhp at the wheels, that's some 1000bhp at flywheel from 2L 16VT can't think of many 20VT that make even half that, though I know Trevor's Lancia Kappa race car makes a true race proven and reliable 470ish.

PS if its 16V get rid of those standard wheels, in fact if its any one get rid of standard wheels!!!!!

Hmm, but then the 20VT engine has really took off tuning wise in the UK, there's plenty of great parts available for it now, and we're just a couple of horses away from a 600BHP 20VT engine in the UK (y) So don't be put off thinking there's a lack of parts for the 20VT; there isn't. It's child's play to reach 300BHP now:

Pro alloy FMIC
GT28RS .64
3" downpipe
3" exhaust
K+N induction kit (or apexi/ramair etc)

Cha ching! and off you go.

What makes you think i'd want to tune it surely I wouldn't get bored of the power :eek:

Ok see your point lol

I think tbh i'd be happy enough with either so will just go with whichever looks like the best car/deal :)

True mate after driving that Smart car or diesel dog van all week the car will feel like lightening ever weekend when you get home and a chance to drive it.

Shush! :D if you don't tune it whatsoever within the first 12 months, I'll be gobsmacked. Especially when the G-Tech (proven safe Eprom chip upgrade) provides a nice easy 25BHP gain for £30 :eek: you will NOT be able to resist (y) (20VT boys only tho, 16VT guys you have to faff about with an uprated fuel pump, and the chip alone costs £70 tee hee :D )

Oh, a couple more things...

* Brembo front brakes with bigger disc size
* A fifth cylinder
* Uprated speakers/radio
* Updated, more stylish dash and centre console
* Quicker spooling specially designed Garrett T28R turbocharger
* Faster steering rack lifted from the GTV (3.3 turns lock-to-lock)
* improved cloth seats that don't turn green after 7 years

Not that I'm trying to persuade you one way or the other... :D
Going to get a kicking from the 16VT boys now...!

Also, basic engine may be the same as an integrale, but not the actual tuning potential in all honesty. Whats the highest bhp 16vturbo coupe in the country at the moment? 300bhp? 320? Begbie is after magical 400bhp but hes replacing everything bit by bit and its costing him a fortune.

To get a coupe from stnd to 400bhp is around 5-6k at the moment i believe. Much is it gonna cost to get a 16v turbo to that? Plus, most of the members on the fccuk are 20vt owners. When 16vt owners ask a question people struggle to answer because they only have 20vt experience. Its your choice, but i would go 20vt if i had the choice again.
