False Alarm!

Hi All,

I had a cat1 alarm fitted when I got my HGT about 18 months ago, and just recently the alarms been going off, only I can't figure out whats causing it.
When it goes off it seems to be the standard Fiat alarm thats going off.
When i set both alarms the interior sensors interfere and set the alarms off, but I've definatly been setting just the one.

I havent been setting the cat1 alarm in the last few days and it hasnt gone off, not sure if its a fault with the fiat alarm arming itself and setting both of them off, or the cat1 alarm - but I don't see why the Fiat alarm would be going off too - surely it should just be the cat1 that goes off.
There both about the same age - I had it transferred from my last car.

Any ideas???

Do you have anthing dangly in your car (air freshener or something?) thinking if the car is parked outside the wind might rock it slightly which would make a dangly thing swing.

That or it could be something else setting it off but if its the interior sensor this is line you need to think.

If one alarm goes off the other probably will too (It should do) as the alarm going off will drain current from the battery which the other alarm will pick up and it will go off too.

Alarms (in my experience) tend to be either something simple or a job for the professionals.

PS- On a different note - when I had my alarm fitted they put vibration sensors in the sides rather than motion sensors inside the car (said they cause false alarms in three door cars) Three and half years and not one false alarm.

Re: Re: False Alarm!

Without knowing what alarm it is it's hard to point you in the direction of common problems but what I would try is arming your cat 1 alarm with the interior sensors turned off this should be possible through the remote, then see what happens.

If that fails check your bonnet switch making sure it has enough of a gap when bonnet is closed, also feel underneath the bonnet pin switch just to make sure it is not hitting anything when the switch is pressed down.
This sounds silly but sometimes the switch moves and hits things causing false alarms.

It's nothing to do with current drain as cat1 alarms (and most other decent alarms)don't use voltage drop i.e switching your interior light or headlights on will not cause this alarm to go off. A battery back up siren will only go off if there is a disconnection of the power supply or a short (you can normally tell this cos the siren will sound and the alarm will not respond to the remote.

Try and find out what alarm it is, It could well have a diagnostic led that will point you in the direction of the problem.

P.s get the oe ultra sonics disconnected which should have been done in the first place.(when cat 1 was fitted)

Re: Re: Re: False Alarm!

sounds a bit silly but i kept getting false alarms from mine, i found out a spiders web was infront of the sensor, and that would turn the alarm on when it crawled accross the sensor.

Alarm

Thanks for your help guys,
Its a Meta 2-1 upgrade alarm, I've never had the false alarms before only recently. Nothing dangly in it at all, and I've checked it for spiders webs etc and I don't think its that.
I'll try disconnecting the standard alarm - I'm sure there must be a fuse of something somewhere I can take out.
Will have a look at the instructions too, see if I can turn off the interioir sensors.
If that don't work, like you say, a job for the professionals.
