Technical Failing Emmisions :@

Took it in for its MOT, and it failed on its emmisions..
Had a blowing exhaust which, i thought, would have been the main cause for this?
So got that replaced (£90),
Cleaned up my spark plugs
Redexed the chambers and carbaretta,
Took it back to the garage a few days later, and the emmisions were worse!!

Since they replaced the center exhaust, ive noticed worse mpg than with the blowing one, and worse acceleration..

Anyone got any ideas on what the hell is going on here?!

Your catalyc converter is probably knackered.

It can have just worn out or if your car is burning oil then that would destroy the converter. What's oil consumption like?

Do a compression test, this will rule out any engine damage causing cat to have gone or lost power and mpg

Ah damn are they expensive? N well the oil seems ok, haven't had any issues with it, and exhaust is always clear, so i'm guessing no oil is getting burned...
And im getting it tested on Friday hopefully (Y), where is the catalytic converter?
I got a W Reg 1.2 8v Punto
I was curious to check the garage hadn't broke my car with the new exhaust

May want some other peoples opinions but yes catalic converters are expensive. It is the bulge under the heat shield at the very start of the exhaust.

MK1 cat is £47 delivered from cats direct. dunno about mark 2 tho.

is the mk1 cat combined with the manifold though? On the mk2 it is, therefore i will assume for mk2 will cost more.
