Hello all,
The drivers side sliding door handle has no resistance to it at all, and the door can only be opened from the inside. Not good for the impending MOT. On further inspection, the activator rod seems to be attached to a spring, but I cannot see further on to see if it has sheared from the pivot pin, which I believe it has.
How do I take the external handle off to get a better look? Or is there a better way?

Any advice would be gratefully received,

Thanks in advance

John.

The problem is likely to be a broken pin inside the exterior handle. This pin acts as both hinge pin and actuator for the rods inside the door.
I did find someone on ebay selling pattern hinge pins but they were expensive and from overseas.

My solution was a handle off a scrap yard.

To get to the handle you must remove the door card from inside. A bit tricky but as long as you remove the plastic bits (lock button, window winder etc) and take your time with the poppers using a broad screwdriver you should be ok.
Behind the interior handle there is a nut which holds the exterior handle on to the door frame. This is difficult to get at and very easy to drop. The exterior handle then falls off the door. Make a note of which rod goes where before you detach them, freeing the handle completely.

Then either fit the replacement handle or (if the scrapper was the wrong colour) swap the pins over and refit everything.
