I have a Silver Mk2 Punto 8v Petrol with 48400 mileage on the clock, bought it few months ago for 1250pound.....

After having some throttle problem (poor idle and auto acceleration....as in my last thread i tried to clean it but didnt help...) and steering noise when i turn right, i took it to a garage in Beeston and they told me i have to change my `Throttle housing' and the`steering rack' which would cost me 970.60pound (490pound for the steering rack and 301pound for the throttle housing plus 41.4pound and 6.90pound for remove & refit) including labour and VAT which i cant afford at all......so i told me back home today.....

I was wondering would it be safe to buy used part on ebay as i saw both parts were about 50 to 70 pound each on ebay including postage and then took to fit at the garage (labour was quoted 50pound for refitting both). If not where can I get cheap parts in Beeston or Nottingham. Can anyone please help......

Yes, you should be fine, although obviously there are no guarentees on the lifespan of used parts. I've change a throttle body before on a punto with a jammed ICV (causing the self-revving) and its still going strong today.

I actually have both a steering rack and another throttle body (including ICV and TPS sensor) amongst my spare parts, although i'm not certain of the condition of the rack, so i wouldn't be willing to sell it. The throttle body though works fine and i can swap this into my punto to check before i sold it. If your interested, i'll sell it for £40 delivered.
