Hi, i did search the forums before making this, appoligies if this has already been asked.

My Grande Punto had a new exhaust fitted as the old one was very rusty. I'm having trouble with it knocking on the underneath of the car or the rear beam, i can't really tell which one.

I've checked for clearance on top of the exhuast and at the rear beam but there seems to be plenty ( roughly 2-3inch ), even when i wiggle it with a bit of force it doesn't bang against anything it's only when i'm driving.
Rubbers were replaced at the same time as the exhaust.

Any help appreciated, Thanks.

Check the rubbers, they may not have been changed. If it is a 2 or3 piece exhaust that has been put on you may need to adjust the alignment of the sleeve joints. I had this issue when I replaced the original exhaust on my 8v.

Other possible issue is that the replacement has less hangers so it sits low. Mine did not have the front hanger near the gearbox, I ended up making something with universal hanger bits from halfords.

If you had this fitted, take it back and make them sort it as first option, if that doesn't work out investigate the above.

Cheers

Ben

Also check it end to end - it's the sort of sound that travels, your problem could be much further forward than you expect

Thankyou for the response.

The rubbers have definitely been changed. I believe it is a 2 piece exhaust, it does seem like there is less hangers holding it, do you have the a picture of your exhaust with the hanger installed? Can you remember what part you purchased?

The exhaust was fitted by a friend of mine (free of charge) who's a mechanic, I'll take it back if all else fails.
