Hi all,

Replaced the back box on my 2002 Fiat punto (1.2) quite recently, after the pipe into the back box simply rotted away.

Fast forward 7/8 months and the pipe out of the box in the middle (going to the back box) has rotted away in the same way (right on the join out of the box). Looks too rusty to weld.

Does anyone know the name of said box? It's the one in the middle of the car, inbetween the back box and the cat. Are there any replacement kits for that section, or do I have to change everything from the cat?

Right pain in the arse, I was one moth away from upgrading to a 2011 evo.

Any help appreciated.

its called the centre section exhaust
you could replace with one not having a centre box if your car is not an auto
it might sound a bit more raucus on tickover though depending on make
these cost about £25 from local factor

the 8v can run with a 16v exhaust setup

Ie a middle box and backbox, with no major problems

I found tho it smashed into everything underneath tho with the weight

the 8v doesn't need an addition silencers, so its fitted with a straight through pipe

Which is smaller = Less weight
Sits with alot more room = Less banging on dodgey exhaust fitters
Less weight = Less stress on the rubber hangers
And sounds no different

So me - Middle pipe FTW!

Wow, thanks for the quick responses!

So, I have an 8v, I can get away with just having a centre pipe from cat to back box?

Ha.

I shall have to make do with penetrating oil. I have two puntos. Just checked under the other one (8v 2002) and it's fitted with a straight pipe from cat to back box.

This one is fitted with a centre box, despite being a 2002 8v. Strange.

Many thanks for your help, it is much appreciated.
