General Exhaust Questions

Hello,

I have a few questions around the exhaust on a Fiat Grande Punto 1.4

1. I seem to be getting a leak in the exhaust coming from the gasket between the down pipe and the center pipe. The bolts have rusted quite well and i can't tell what the bolt screws into.

Is there some sort of nut that is meant to be on the other end?

2. The bracket holding the front of the center pipe has broken. Does anyone know where i can get hold of a new one, or what i should be searching for? The bit that is broken is the metal clamp around the pipe itself.

3. When pulling away the exhaust rattles quite a lot. Looking under the car the exhaust seems to be hanging quite low. There doesn't seem to be any supports from just after the down pipe to the rear silencer. Is there meant to be some sort of bracket that is missing that supports the center pipe?

Best thing to do is drill out the rusted bolts on the flange so that you are left with holes where they used to be. Then use replacement nuts/bolts to clamp the two together with a new gasket.

As for the bracket, i'm not sure, as Eper doesn't list it (only shows it as part of the centre section, not a separate part).

Agree on the flange, new gasket and bolts.

On the bracket I had that too it just rusted away. If your system is the same as mine the bracket was welded to the exhaust. I ground off the old fitting from the exhaust then I bought one of these: Clamp Assuming the seller is out of stock as the price shouldn't be so high I paid 4 pounds!

I had to bend it around just a little then it clamped onto the original fitting

If the clamp is no. 12 in this diagram you would be looking for part number 46827608.

Probably cheaper and easier to follow DGPunto's suggestion and get a universal one.

Mine hangs quite low too. As far as I know there are no supports between the front and rear:

Please double check the size of the exhaust on your car before you buy. I've just been looking again as I bought two for different projects. It might have been this one: Clamp take 2 that fitted my GP and it's only 2.10p plus post!
