Technical Exhaust...expensive?

Hello all,

My Fiat Marea Weekend 20v has just started making a noise like a fighter jet and I have found there is a small hole in the middle box (shaped a bit funny and sits up into the chassis). What is this box? Is is darned expensive to replace?

It sounds like the second silencer. Just check that it's not the cat which sits just behind the manifold. You should have cat, squarish silencer and then the back box silencer.
You can just put a bit of pipe in here if you want, it doesn't seem to make a lot of difference to the sound.
When mine went I replaced everything behind the cat with a stainless system and left that one out.
Standard cat back exhaust is about £200, stainless was £320.

Thanks for the reply Polecat. Shopped locally and got it done for £190 by local ATS. I think is must have had a hole for quite some time 'cause it has never been this quiet
