Hi All,
Any ide what could be wrong with my Fiat 500 Twin Air?
Start stop is not working, also there is an issue (not always) with starter motor not retracting properly after engine is started, it makes kind of grinding noise for couple of seconds. Sound like starter motor is still engage while engine is running (new and old starter motor same issue)
The new motor starter was fitted but same issue. Also brand new battery was fitted.
Something to do with relays? Electrical fault? Anyone know which relays I should check/replace?
Thank you in advance

Don't know specifically about your model ,others may be able to advise re codes etc.
If not a computer issue, it was often caused by a lazy/faulty ignition switch in the past.
Does your switch feel funny or do you have a large bunch of keys on the same key ring jamming it.

Switch feel fine I don't believe this is an issue but I will double check.

So if the starter feed wire at the ignition switch isn't still supplying power when key released, it will point to things as you suggested, where I am unable to help, but maybe other members will have more knowledge. Sorry I am old school.;)

Hi, yes you are correct this is an ignition barrel/switch issue, I have disconnected fuel pump and had a go and I can confirm that there is something wrong with it, sometimes it gets stuck sometimes not. Tried to lubricate it using silicone grease but no help so I am assuming this is something wrong with the switch at the end of the barrel? So what is the best approach to fix this? Do I need new barrel assembly, or can I repair it, changing switch or cleaning? I understand removing barrel assembly is not easy job?
Does anyone have wiring diagram of the 500?

I was going to suggest an earth strap..

But you have narrowed down to point of issue (y)

Historically..
There was a contactor disc in the bottom of the lock barrel ( I changed a wornout one..)

@koalar has posted more modern info
I replaced a couple of ignition switches on the Panda

The 500 is completely different

In fact different 500 have different switches

I didn’t want to suggest any thing as don’t have or could find the wiring diagrams for the latter 500

As far as I can see the switch isn’t ready available for the 500

The barrel including ignition switch is. But you will need to chisel the old one off as the bolt heads are designed to snap off as a security feature

Thank you for the info, I managed to get switch assembly out of the barrel assembly, used contact cleaner to clean micro switches also clean old grease and applied new silicone grease.... but still same issue.
Ordered new one second hand from ebay will see if that fix the issue.....

It would be helpful if someone would post some latter wiring diagrams. I seen the 2007 but it’s without ESS

There’s a bit of info on the Alfas but google failed me badly on the 500. Which is strange as there shed loads about

Not sure where we are going with the ignition switch

Yes it could cause the “makes kind of grinding noise for couple of seconds.”

But the start/stop does not involve the ignition switch except to sense the ignition is on

Rear window
Wiper
Gearbox
Battery sensor
Clutch
Aircon
Coolant temperature
And so on

In terms of start stop issue I will order battery negative terminal including sensor, also I was reading about s/s clutch sensor? Where is that located on twinair manual? I want to check wiring first before I order anything.

Thank you again

Edit.

Just read if clutch sensor is dead car would not start at all? I have another twinair start stop on my driveway so i may try to swap battery sensor to see if that fix the issue.

It’s a two stage switch

Should be able to test it with a scan tool

I find it strange P1512 & B1083 haven’t come up before

P1512 Starter motor signal seems strange. P1??? Codes can be iffy as the are manufactures and sometimes model dependent. All around P1512 is connected to the inlet manifold seems strange to slot in a stater motor here

Manual or robotised gearbox
