Having purchaesd a second Stilo (for my wife) , from my brother in law, 2 months down the line it wouldn't start (n)

As we were financially strapped after christmas we declared it SORN until we could get it fixed.

At the weekend I had a mobile tuning guy come round and he did a diagnosis which showed up error code P0606 ECU faulty.:(

Questions:

1. Is this the correct diagnosis for this code?:worship:

2. How much to replace ECU?

3. Do keys need to be re-programmed after changing ECU?:(

Answers please.....

As for the MW it's now done 125 000 miles and will shortly be going SORN for a little while (once Wife's 5 dr is fixed)

Cheers

P0606 - ECM/PCM processor

so yes faulty ECU, a new ECU is around £500 for the part, maybe worth looking to see if it can be repaired (send it to a company through the post), what does the ECU look like? any black marks on it?

and yes keys will need to be reprogrammed to the new ECU if you get a new one.

sorry to bring bad news :(

Keys do not need to be programmed to engine ecu as they are held in the body computer. Also as T says a reset may all that is required. Get it to a dealer with examiner.

*****UPDATE*****

Towed the Stilo to Fiat garage on Saturday...

Told them the battery was flat as a pancake...

They charged it up.......

Fitted it .....

Car started 1st time!!!!!!!!!!:bang:

No error codes showing  even though mobile mechanic showed error code P0606.

Would not start for me since Xmas.

Wife reckons she'll beat it with a big stick.....

So all being well the Stilo 5dr will be back on thew road at the weekend and the MW will be declared SORN.

might not be,had this a few times on various fiats (ROM error) & simply clearing the error was enough.

This is why code readers can put techs/users on the wrong route to diagnosis, often ending up more expensive than taking to a dealer with the correct equipment in the first place...what if you fitted that ECU..£400 odd?

Although I have no doubt generic code readers have their uses,I use one myself,yo uhave to carefully weigh up the pro's & con's.

Glad its fixed ursabear (y)
