Hi all, i have been having problems with my 1997 fiat bravo, my car is fine until i hit 40mph when it starts to shake eraticly untill i reach 70mph then this is fine, it also makes some knocking and rattling sounds, today i had my exhaust rubber replaced and my front arms and shock absorbers. this hasn't cured my problems.. any ideas? would be much appreciated! =]

get your wheels balanced? check alingment with your local 'shop'

not expensive

Eratic Shaking

I had this a while back although it wasnt the whole car eratically shaking, I had the wheels re-balanced and it was fine!

Cheers for the reply, but I have had this done, any other ideas??? please

If youve already had them balanced, then either get them done elsewhere, or Get your wheels balanced while they are still on the car.

Check all ur bolts. and take ur wheels off, then make sure there is nothing stopping it from sitting flush.

this happened with my mums car, found out that the bolt holding the brake disc on was damaged, removed it and its now fine :)

is the shaking and vibration through the steering wheel or the whole car? if it is the wheel then it will be the front wheels. the rear wheels will make the car shake. check for bulges in the rear tyres

Thanks for all the replys, i do have alloy wheels on it yes! will this make a difference? I explained the problem to my local fiat service shop over the phone and they've said i need to replace my drive shafts? does this sound right?? as you can tell im not very mechanical

Check you have the correct sized spigot rings in.

Sounds very much like a problem i had, but i did't take it up to 70.

That's probably your problem, same happened to me when i had new 17" wheels put on.

It's important that you get the wheels fitted properly with the correct spiggot rings to get the centre bore to 58.1 and make sure you have proper bolts!

The stud pattern for a bravo is 4x98, usually aftermarket alloys don't come in this size, most likely 4x100 or 4x108, therefore you will require wobbly bolts to make them fit properly!

Try to avoid driving it untill all this is sorted as it's quite unsafe!

As Tommy said it is extremly unsafe to drive with you car in this condition. I found that the shaking caused one of my wheel bolts to come loose and fall out (i refreained from driving until i had it sorted unless necessary)I suggest you do too.
