General England Flags !!!!

Re the Enlish - Welsh thing.
Its a national pass time here to hate the English , in a [mostly] good natured way. But if you know a little Welsh History it does seem a touch insensive to fly the English flag when in Wales.
But I'd never condone any violent or damaging action, BUT as DriagFlag87 said Bleanau Ffestiniog is a bit rough, best remove them.....

Much the same as the English - Scottish, it's mostly just banter but there is always the odd nutter that will take things too far.
Its not necessarily a national thing either, you would be ill advised to wear a Liverpool top in some parts of Manchester or vice versa, football just seems to bring out the worst in people (or attract the worst people).

However I'm glad to see England fans are now displaying the George cross now that they have realised that than the union flag isn't actually the England flag.

Can't stand football, couldn't care less about how England do. Would rather stick pins in my eyes than have an England flag anywhere near my car.

Whilst I completely agree about the flags (although there is a perverse pleasure in seeing some flag be-decked cars with stereotype occupants) I really like international sporting events of all descriptions, even if I'm not into the sport itself. Go England !

I can't remember the last time the Welsh invaded England and tried to destroy their language and culture though

15th Century i think? but they made the massive mistake of recruiting help from the french thereby losing creditability and ultimately being crushed and abused for the next few centurys.

my friend once made the mistake of wearing an england shirt in wales, but successfully begged to borrow a shirt of the mate we were staying with before we left cardiff for Merthyr. :( i deliberately didn't say anything, but someone else didn't find it funny to "see what happens"

Couldn't agree more, hopefully they'll get knocked out in the group stages, sooner it's over the better!!

I agree with DriagFlag87 the Welsh people are hard to get accepted by at first, they seem to have an inherent distrust of strangers. Not good for an area where the main business is toursium!

Dont you think we should stop living in the past and get on? If wales or scotland was in the world cup and england wasnt, i would support them over pretty much any other team.

One reason why i dislike the nature of football.

For example:

Chelsea VS Arsenal, Fans will fight and slag off the opposite team and evan put someone in hospital becuase they support a different team.

England VS Germany, All the people who were fighting and slagging off people because they support a different team are now best buddys!

Yeah that's the silly thing about it. Because of silly rivalries people lose sight of the actual game. My personal opinion is that football is so boring that it means that people have to have these meaningless rivalries to make it exciting.

Easier said when your country is the one who was the one doing committing the opression :) As someone with South African blood in my veins I LOVE when we beat England at Rugby Union, it's just a fantastic feeling :D But I can assure you that this is as far as my feelings go :) I've even got an English wife as proof :p

Yeah because South Africa never oppressed anyone did they....? ;)

It is pure gang mentality which I too struggle with.

Even though I'm not a fan of domestic football, I don't think the spectacle is any more or less scintillating than rugby union, test cricket, snooker masters or anything else. I suppose it comes down to how much as an individual you buy into the occasion. Personally, I love all world cup and olympic events where the worlds best compete for honours.

But it's so farcical, with people throwing themselves on the ground to get penalties and winning like that. Tbh its heading towards the syncronised swimming and ice dancing end of sporting pursuits. It simply doesn't make sense to me that rugby and cricket have adopted video refs and football is still running around claiming that the refs split second decision is right

I agree entirely. Video refs should be allowed and certainly the theatricals can be difficult, but they are working hard to take a firm line. Referees should also get a lot more respect.

I still enjoy the sense of occasion the world cup gives though.

Me on the weekend
