Hiya guys and girls

its come to that time of the year again and have been looking for quotes with all mods declaired... the thing is as im now running the 16v the big question I keep getting is regarding the engine swap... thayre asking me for a engineers/mechanics report to say the engine was fitted properly... the problem I now have is.... well... I fitted it myself... so how can I go about getting it certified as such or am I wizzing in the wind??

Insurance isnt due for a month but I need to get the report in writing before they will insure it

Cheers in advance guys

lee

Sky never asked me for one for mine just signed a modfor to say what had been done on the car they're top notch definately worth a try

Currently waiting for a callback from chris knotts... ive heard adrian flux are a nightmare to deal with if a claim is made...

Ideally I want a agreed value but as ive never declaired I dont really know what options I have... trying to do it right this time round... hopefully i wont get stung too badly

I do however I dont think they will write the report unless I remove the engine and let them refit :(
Doesn't hurt to ask.

Cinq/Sei is a very simple car and you'll easily see if it is fitted properly or bodged in.

If there is nothing structural changed to get the engine in, I can't see it being a problem.

Well just got off the phone from sky and theyve given me a half decent quote at 660 with 300 excess... all mods covered like for like including lowering... polybushes.. gauges..exhaust system..induction kit...steering wheel.. 1.4 engine... brakes and braided lines... wind deflectors... wheels... removed rear seats..

Thats all the main ones... there could be others but I cant remeber lol...

Still waiting on chris knotts to call back and Im going to call adrian flux just to see what they offer

Also I popped down to the friendly mot station... they do all the work that I cant.. I.e wheel balancing... tracking... mot ect and theyve said theyll check and do the report for 30quid so not bad at all.. however as rob said.. sky didnt ask for it so may not be a problem

Cheers for the advice so far guys im sure there will be more newbie questions

Also with sky you get mods covered like for like. Scrap retention rights, agreed value etc always been insure with them mine normally comes out at around 900 mark cheap considering I'm only 23

To add there is a list on retro rides of insurance companies that might be worth scouring thorough

I need to look into the options really i dont know what scrap retention rights are?? How do i get a agreed value.. id quite like the car to be valued at around 1500 obviously with like for like mods covered...

I must say though sky has been the easiest to deal with so far.. chris knotts called back and offered me 745 with the same benefits as sky... i then told them sky had quoted me 660 and they dropped 100quid off in a matter of mins..flux have sent me an email basically saying 500quid but best to call them for 'an even better quote' tried to ring them and it took them an age to answer so i gave up

hopefully at this rate it wont be a killer...

cheers guys

Try HIC mate, i rang them up after the 16v conversion and they asked where i got the engine and who fitted it. I just said i took it out of a car myself and stuck in myself. Nothing else was said about the matter.

They are a broker but when i get a quote from who my policy is with i generally get higher price or they won't quote. So they clearly have deals with all these places - they have always got a better price if i get a price elsewhere and go back to them, once with the very same company i got a quote from.

They also offer agreed value and all the good stuff, driving other cars (even on tpft) etc etc. I got my insurance through them every year for about 8 years now.

Try http://www.brentacre.co.uk small company based in Wales who will cover all modifications without question and allow you to change items on the car without having to declare it, i.e. suspension, or brakes etc. They covered our track day Cinq with the extensive list if modifications no problem and do like for like cover on the modifications. Click the link on the website for modified cars as it explaines it all. They work on a maximum declared bhp for the car I think ours is 130bhp from memory.

When you call it's very informal compared to other companies, in fact sounds like a guy just sat in an office, which it probably is, and prove to be very helpful and like they actually want to work with you to not only get the business but give you decent cover.

Cheers guys I really appreciate your help.. nice to know there are people out there that are happy to help me do things properly and by the book... ill give brentacre a call tomorrow and see what they can do for me.. also im going to give flux a call back and see what they can do ...

plan at the moment is to play chris knotts and sky off against eachother and see what they can offer... and then see what optional extras I can get thrown in for free :p

Is it just me or is the challenge of bartering a great buzz when you win :p

I cant thank you enough @J33EVO spoke to these guys today and theyve come back with an awesome quote with great conditions... basically they asked the engine conversion details and said the rest just needs jotting down... as said no extra charge for non bhp increasing mods, very friendly and explained there cover and answered some of my newbie questions...

best of all they quoted me a great price.. only £549.99 all declaired :)

So well worth a shout to them if your looking for a decent modified quote
