General Engine Warning AFTER cleaning inlet control valve?

Hey guys, (and dolls)

First of all, what a damn fine forum you have here and you're so blooming helpful it brings a tear to my eye!


SO, my stilo was idling very erraticly and also stalling a fair bit, i cleaned the inlet control valve and immediatley the engine warning light came on! ALTHOUGH, the vehicle seems to idle perfectly now, i was wondering if the fact i unplugged the valve could have caused it BUT surely it would be ok once its plugged back in? Apart from the idle all was fine previously.


Please help, i hate having to use the extra energy to press the mode button to silence and hide the error! It take too much effort!

i guess this indicates the throttle body needs a throttle relearn procedure - it is somewhere on this forum , please use the search button to find it...

Hi, thanks for the replies,

I went on a 150mile trip yesterday BUT by the time i got to 30 miles the light went out so im happy now!!!

I think it may have relearned it self!


LOBSTER, i removed the whole body and cleaned it with WD40. I was lookin at one of the other guys guides on here for stilo's that "hunt" when idling and low power, ALTHOUGH he said clean whilst its fitted i decided to remove. HOWEVER---The fact he has helped me fault find a problem the dealers couldnt i am very impressed with!

Guys dont use wd-40 they sell cheap sprays specifically designed for this. Using wd-40 might make things worse since it will coat the whole inlet manifold with oil. Just go get a carburetor/air inlet cleaner (make sure its catalyst friendly so you dont destroy your catalytic converter) Make sure you have a friend keeping the revs high about 3,500 and spray the inside all aroundso you can get the guck out of the inlet manifold as well.

DUDE, you dont have the engine running when you clean it!

That would just suck the cloth out your hand!
I use wd40 to remove deposits of built up grime. It works better than carb cleaner. Carb cleaner usually evaporates too quickly!

WHOLE INLET MANIFOLD? you make it sound like we're cleaning the whole manifold? We are only using small amount to clean a ring around the butterfly! of the valve control body NOT the whole manifold!


Calm down mate, most people on here are experienced enough to know when to use and when not to use!
