engine ticking noises

Hi all, i am now the proud owner of a fiat bravo 1.6 sx 1999, i got it home from the auction and noticed a small ticking noise from the engine whilst it's idling, is this normal? if not, any suggestions on what it could be? and possible ways to remedy it?

An 8 year old engine will make some noises, its only natural.

But without actually hearing the noise its impossible to say if its normal or bad.

lightning response thanks, if it helps it seems to be coming from the belts to the left of the engine(if you were standing in front). and the higher the revs the faster the ticking.!

Sounds like it could be tappets, especially as they get faster the higher the revs..
